used del sol vtec prices
I used to own a '93 del sol Si and traded it a few years back for my WRX. Now i'm looking for a commuter car to keep the miles off our WRX, ~60 miles daily and I came upon a '97 VTEC. I tested it yesterday and it drove well. It's originally from New York. It has about 127k miles, resprayed (average job), and a nearly constant squeek from the front passenger side. I couldn't find any evidence of an accident. Asking price is $6000. This seems like a great price, maybe too good to be true. Am I missing something? Any advice?

Yeah, here's the thing. I bought an '88 Celica about a year ago with 107k miles. I thought the same thing: Toyotas should last awhile. Anyway, after replacing the tires, brakes, stereo/speakers, engine mount, leaking crank shaft seal, and power steering pump, the AC went out. The heater and temperature gauge don't work either. So I'm hoping not to make the same mistake twice.

The number of miles on an individual car is MEANINGLESS -- it has to do with how the actual owner(s) drove it. You can kill a Civic or Accord in under 60k by driving it aggressively, and you can baby a Turbo 911 past 150k (my dad did!) with careful regular maintenence. Before you buy used from a private owner, have them take you for a drive and pay attention to how they treat it. Take it to a shop and find out how many parts have been changed out since it came from the factory. A car that is on its second clutch or tranny or that has significant suspension wear is also probably going to need gaskets, seals, CV boots, driveshaft/axle work and more.
my other car is a 94 delsol vtech. the car has over 210,xxx miles on it now and will still bust a mustang when asked to do it. ive driven here like a juvinile for a long time now but always kept up the maintenence. all i have replaced was a clutch. so what im saying is that car and that motor (B16A2) is one hell of a deal at that price and WILL last you a long time if you keep up on it.
