I'm no fan of the GTO myself, but to have a car that is competition capable and for him to be able to get a few decent drifts off in a car that he has probably had only a few dozen hours of practice in max, that i can appreciate.
This bashing in him is a bit unfair, its like pitting a veteran locksmith with his own custom pick set and a newbie that learned out of a pamphlet with a set of store bought picks........maybe his initial outting wasn't too impressive, but at least thats more companies getting in to the drift scene. As much as you guys may dislike domestics, without them the japanese have nothing to brag about, because without lots of competitors, companies tend to sit on their laurels and the people that are hurt most in the end is us, the consumers.

You really need to know what you are talking about before you say something. The GTO is a rebadged Holden Monaro built in Australia, so it's not an American car.
The really silly thing is saying drift cars need to be imports, why? A Mustang, Viper, Camaro, or god forbid a GTO make awesome drift cars. Whats better than a rear drive, V8 or V10 with monster amounts of torque for sliding the rear end. I have driven a GTO and it is seriously quick and will slide the rearend with just a dab of the throttle but thats what 350 lbft of torque will do.
Your right opinions are like you know what. And as far as I'm concerned drtifting is stupid. It doesn't matter if you do it in an import or and American car.

Anyway I will stand by my statement and say NO TO THE GTO, YO!!

I suppose you could do the cusco race car route and make it rwd though.

AWD has been banned from D1GP, as it has been in almost all motorsports. Coincidentally enough Rhys Millen, before his GTO, drove an EVO VII at D1GPs first event of 2003 before being forced to drive his rwd Supra for the 2nd event.
And outside of the professional leagues there's a grip of awd drifters. EVOs, Skylines, etc.
So yes it's very possible to drift an awd car, just not professionally under the current rulesets, and not because the cars aren't capable.

It surely has the power if anything they should modify and make it rwd for the comps.

As posted above, Rhys used to drift a Evo last year.
Stop hating on Domestic Iron. I don't drive a domestic, but in terms of cheap power, the Big Three are tough to beat. give me one good reason why a IRS Cobra on a serious diet wouldn't be competitive...
...And another thing IIRC there are no Japanese makers supporting D1, least of all here, so if Chrylser offered you half a mill to prep & drift a Crossfire, you would decline the offer? 'Cuz Rhys didn't...

If it was me i wouldn't be using awd for a drift car you'd have to take the corners alot faster i think to get the drift you want. It seems that its easier to maintain a drift with a rwd car and such prolly why their so often used.
Do you know if the drifter evo had any mods like conversion to rwd or such?

Keep it IMPORT unless its old school!
Rhys Millen is a veteran rally driver and runs a tuner shop...that gives him more street cred than most could ever dream of! There are all kinds of cars and all kinds of drivers, really no need to knock em unless they give you a hard time or drive like S***!
Rhys Evo was AWD - I'm pretty sure it was his rally car as well (he has competed in SCCA ProRally for the last few yrs).
