. As for being cheaper, nope actually a supercharger kit is far less expensive than an equivolent turbo kit (that's one reason why manufacturers prefer to supercharge a vehicle than turbo it). Problem with our cars is that placement of the kit is difficult as we have horizontally opposed engines with very low hood lines. And the previous kit attempts by others (such as Rimmer) have left a bad taste in our collective financial mouths. We could have a workable kit made, and have it be about 30% cheaper than the turbo kits, but not enough demand for it. The kits would be *very* specific to our cars (unlike, for example, Jackson Racing which can build a SC kit for the Mazda Miata and also use most of the parts for another model of car such as a Honda Civic, or VW Golf). Plus the market size is very limited, too small to jusify the kit's production. - WRX_REED

used ive seen them for as little as 100 bucks.
best bet would be to go to a salvage yard buy a front clip for 500
and use everything you can to mount it to your car and fill in the
blanks.i havent tried it yet but i think its going to come down to it.
im not clear on what i have to do with the engine management.
any one want to answer that one?

WRX ECU mapping...
Don't know if anyone made the mappings for the stock ecu. I figure if anything, a supercharger with low to mild boost levels would be easier to accomodate for the stock ecu than an aftermarket turbo with higher boost expectations. Probably, the supercharger is good with the stock ecu and an APEXi fuel management monitor (similar to what Vishnu did with the NA 99 Subaru before the turbochager kit and with the older MAF wire kit) For any lean conditions.

anything below at or below 1/2 atmosphere is considered low to mild boost. (1 atmosphere is about 14 psi, so 7 and below psi is mild to low boost levels). Most if not almost all long term (Not specialty makes or one offs, ie. SS brands from GMC, or the SHO brands from Ford, and independents such as Saleen and Greenwood. They are made for extreme power and have been know to break on occasion both on street and on track.) corporately made superchargers fall in this realm (ie. 100K mile warranties from the factory). Even some turbos fall into this as shown by Volvo's use of low pressure (boost) turbos in their sedans. Also another thing people don't realize is that most SC compressors do not go out at 100K or more miles, instead the belt just needs replacement. Turbos, on the other hand, are almost always required by factory to replace the compressor or at the very least rebuild the compressor and bearings at 100K+, if not sooner depending on driving habits.
