I just posted I felt more comfortable in an STI driving it than the EVO. That means i felt more in control. The Evo does outhandle the STI on the track but its not like it laps it, its usually with 1 second that they are apart not some huge numbers. You make it sound like the Evo will lap the STI over and over.
Everyone also keeps talking about how the Evo is cheaper blah blah, no one seems to remember that the US didnt get the "real" evo. You guys are also missing a 6spd and front diff, which I heard, if it is offered as an option will raise the price of the Evo to that of the STI, not to mention all the fun dealer issues and clutch issues (rust coating issues anyone) that the Evo's are seeing. I'm not buying just an engine, i'm buying a whole car, and raw HP that I MAY hit someday is not my deciding factor.
Oh and the Iron block engine will always be stronger than the open deck STI engine, but no everyone is trying to rule the streets w/ 600hp. As long as the STI engine is strong enough I'll be fine, I want a well balanced car not a HP monster.

Yeah, this whole discussion basically boils down to what you want to DO with the damned car. If you want to go run 1/4s, you might be better off in the STi (although the mod community needs to gear up a bit more to make this the case). If you want to run the touge, buy an Evo.

I hate to break it to my beloved Suby community, but the Mitsu's true STi killer is coming-The EVO MR edition. Price should be around the same ball park as the STi.
Comes with 6spd, ACD and AYC. light weight forged aluminum roof, and etc....

Looks like its time for Subaru to bring over the STi RA Spec C.

my mitsu rant.
The STi is new to our market.
The EVO powertrain has been around for years (since 1990 actually, when the first 4G63 came out) and has been proven. Although the drivetrain has been proven since then has been proven to be very tender. From my lurking on evolutionm.net, the clutch and tranny seem to brreak very often within the first 5k-10k miles.
Since the STi is new, aftermarket will soon flood our market and your choice in "mods" will become very hard to decide on. Look at Honda, the K-series motor hasn't been here(or japan) very long and there is something new everyday for it. I think the STi will have a similar effect.
If you are going daily driver, an aluminum roof might be bad news in a wreck. Accidents happen, that is why they were originally called accidents.

That rumor's pretty old news but Mitsu will have to stay in business to bring anything out and the looks of that new Galant don't show much future.
It's much cheaper to get a strong block than strong tranny and drivetrain.
400-500hp is enough for most and those that want power at those levels and beyond will be getting built motors anyway. $4000 for a built shortblock that will make all the power you'll ever need for the streets.
If your really hp nah torque hungry Crawford 2.8l.

I doubt it. The spec-C was a limited production run. Perhaps something similar to Spec-C is in the making to combat the EVO MR? If it is true, that is great for us car enthusiasts!
Being that the WRX started this AWD shootout in the States, I definitely think that Subaru will counter the EVO MR with the Spec C. Currently to quote the latest Best Motoring DVD (GTR) "The Spec C is arguably Japan's fastest 2 liter car...". In the past two issues of Best Motoring, the Spec C bested the EVO on both the Tsukuba and Fuji race tracks. I am an STi owner and love my car dearly, but an EVO (or any nice car for that matter) will turn my head. I think that both cars are great, the seats in the EVO are superior to those in my car though. My choice for the STi came down to the fact that it is a better "all-around" car. Ladies and gentlemen, I say pick your poison...I'd have them both if I could.
I personally really like the seats in the STI. They hold me great when cornering. I also dropped my car and added a rear sway bar, I have no problem with negotiating a tight turn at high speeds. I have started modding my STI, I raced a stock EVO and destroyed it. It is true Mitsubishi does have to stay in buisness long enough to bring over an mr. More over I have seen personally Evo's with broke transmissions at the track. I don't much care for the alteza's nore do I care for the shape much. The sti just feels alot stronger to me, and I believe it is built better. Yes the Evo engine has been around for a while but I have no complaints about the STI's engine. I also beat a EVO by 5 car lengths street racing. I don't care too much for the track.

Put Cams, fuel pump. Went to the track without the car being tuned. Ran 13.043 at 106.45 mph. Oh I forgot to mention that first, second, third gear slipped all the way down the track. I just gave up on the top if fourth. Was pretty syked. Enjoy Guys drives the cars until the wheels fall off!

odd thing to say depends on magazine?
does someone read import tuner for mods? and believes the garbage they say
At first I thought the interior of the STi was better ... but after seeing both in real life. (Flame suit on) I prefer the EVO's interior ... the blue seats and blue carpet ?!? with pink logo is just aweful (my subjective opinion). You can't beat the tighter 13-1 steering ratio. I wish they made something like that for the WRX. I know the spec C comes with one standard ..... I would definately upgrade my steering column. I have to agree .. handling before power ... Ultimately it is the better driver that will win
