WOAH, what color STi are you looking for? I have a 2005 Silver STi with like 7k miles on it, it's a garage queen cuz im in college. Oil change @ 3k and 6k with cheveron supreme and puralator pureone, never raced or connected the clutch above 3.5k. are you thikning a about a a trade trade maybe. im thikning too..
I say do what is practical, an M3 may get you more girls, but are they the type of girls you are looking for? (High maintenance, materialistic Paris Hilton wannabees)
Who cares what the heck people think, especially some dumb biatch. Go with what you like, The M3 is damn sexay, but the STi is many times more practical.

How much would you be able to get if you sold the BMW? Also the money that you would be saving per month . . . is that money that can be invested into other things (debt, house/good debt, travel/vactations, IRA, etc.)?
If you are financing the M3 currently, and got an STI, then maybe you can pay off the STI sooner, by paying the same amount as your M3. No debt sooner!
$200-300 per what? week? Month? Year? If it's either week or month I'd say yes, could be worth it, depending on your current expenses.

The M3 is pimp, but an extra $200-$300 a month would be nice also. If you are barely making it paycheck to paycheck, I would sell the bmw and get a more practical car.
Personally, I could afford a much nicer car than my wrx, but I also like having money to blow on things every day. I say buy a 2006 tr and mod the heck out of it. You will be faster than an STi, have a cheaper car payment and less insurance.
My 2 cents

Ok, I voted to sell the M3. Here's why, and it really has nothing to do with one being a Subaru and one being a BMW. I'm not even a Subaru fan. I'm a fan of particular cars, not companies. Just because Subaru pushes something out doesn't mean I'm going to like it just because it's a Subaru. The same goes for BMW or any other company. There are BMWs just the same as Subarus that I wouldn't be seen in even with a bag over my head.
Dude, if you want to save some money and you really don't care about luxury or a comfortable ride, sell the M3. Are Subarus prestigious like BMWs? Absolutely not.
Everybody's telling you, "If you want to get girls keep the M3."
Ask yourself WHO you are buying that car for; someone else or for yourself? If you have to rely on a car to get you a girlfriend, then you just plain suck. GIRLS may date you for a car but WOMEN will date you for who you are.
If you sell the M3 and pick up an STi you will not miss the performance of the M3, but you may miss the feeling of it. The STi is nearly right on par with the M3 in terms of performance, and not to mention it will be more reliable, cheaper to afford, and cheaper to modify. Now, this is a matter of opinion, but I have seen some STis that are just downright SWEET, but I am yet to see an M3 that I've really seen and just said, "WOW." When I see a "modified" M3 it always seems to have a set of rims on it and nothing else. Sure, M3s look nice and they have a touch of class you won't find in a Subaru, but overall I think the STi has some nice lines and given the right subtle enhancements looks every bit as nice as an M3.
You don't need to ask others what you should do. Drive both of them, and make your decision. To me it sounds like you really want to keep your M3 but you are trying to justify selling it. Are you thinking with your head or thinking with your heart?
If you are not in a financial bind, keep your M3. It'll be paid off in a few years (?), and by that time a new STi/STI will be out on the market. At that time you can purchase an STi/STI and have both, an M3 and an STi/STI to boot.
I've owned a '94 B4C Camaro for over 10 years now. In late 2001 I bought a 2002 VW 1.8T GTI and thought about selling the Camaro "because the GTI had a turbo, was fun to drive, and more economical." Well, I'm glad I kept the Camaro because I found that the GTI was a nice car but it just wasn't a Camaro. I would've been miserable if I had sold my Camaro for a GTI.
Well, I got sick of the GTI because it didn't live up to the performance of my Camaro. I turned to the STi, and ditched the GTI. At that time I thought about selling the Camaro "because the STi has 300 hp, AWD, 4 doors, and will provide the same rush as the Camaro." Well, I didn't sell the Camaro, and I'm glad I didn't, because the STi doesn't provide the same rush as the Camaro. Yeah, the STi will run with the Camaro step for step, and it will handily outhandle the Camaro, but what it doesn't provide is the driving experience.
Good luck with your decision.

Re-evaluate your needs... Start from the beginnning...
What do you want from your car? Brute Power? Styling? Luxury? Consider your needs and once youve clarified those needs for yourself... close your eyes and picture yourself in each car... whichever one gives you the raging hard-on is the car to choose...
My personal opinion? I hate buying into images... just the fact that its not an underdog brand, id ditch the bmw... you would be sacraficing some *** plush, but saving yourself 300 a month! thats a lot of money, man! Get an STi and swap the trunk with a wingless WRX... that would be hot as all hell... well... not really, STi's are butt ugly compared to the M3, but you get what I mean, you'll lose the flash factor...

Regarding the "hard-on," there's no Subaru or BMW on Earth that's going to give me a "hard-on," and probably not many other people either. "Hard-ons" are saved for cars like Lamborghinis, (some) Ferraris, Saleen S7s, McLaren F1s, and Ford GTs. That's not to say that there aren't some original and nice Subarus and BMWs out there, but even the nicest ones don't even come close to comparing with these cars (even in stock trim).
but sin... some people DO get raging hard ons from subies/bmws and not just exotics.. I for one don't like any... Priciest car I'd ever buy (if I had unlimited funds) Would be a Porsche GT2... Not all of us dream of the "hello ladies, yes, I am compensating" look... And my post was partially joking... I suggested that he re-evaluate his needs, I think that would be very beneficial

For the record, I'd take either a '73 Carrera, 993 Turbo, 996 GT2/GT3, or 997 GT2/GT3. Aside from those particulars, no interests here in Porsche.

But yeah, gotta evaluate the needs.....
