It's already been done....
... almost. A guy I know put a Legacy turbo motor into his 914 but couldn't make it AWD (I'm not sure how you would do that with a mid-engine configuration). It took a little fabrication but most of the conversion parts are already available and the stock 915 tranny can handle 300 hp.
That thing would be a monster if anybody decided to do it. It would be lighter than the 914-6 and definitely lighter than the 914 V8 conversions. In stock trim, a 914 weighs a touch over 200 lbs.

It would not be lighter than a 914-6 by the tine you add the radiator and all the associated plumbing and the fans. Not to mention the weight of all the wiring needed. The 914-6 was very simple and light with a carburator. But if you do a WRX or STI swap you will add a little weight but the extra HP will more than compensate.
