The IS300 is a great car but if you turbo it, you won't be able to smog it and you'll have to do some major work to make it reliable. The STI comes w/ 300hp and awd. Also, some minor work will get you a lot more HP.

Tough call, but I'd say the STi. If for no other reason then the jump from RWD to AWD.

Do you ever drive on less then perfect roads?

Wow, that's a hard decision. I have to agree with hashiriya that you don't see many blown IS300s. I would absolutely love to have one of those. There are some people who have twin-turboed them and are getting massive amounts of power. I looked at the IS's when I was buying my WRX but with the winter's up here I didn't want to have to worry about driving the RWD in the winter. A luxury/pimp car like the IS is hard to beat for style and with a turbo it just makes it mean.

On the other hand, with the STi you'll be starting out with 300 horse like everyone said. AWD vs. RWD. I'd have to pick the IS over the STi in the looks category. The STi will be much more reliable than a turboed IS300 for sure. If you are getting an insande deal like you say I'd be tempted to lean that way. All in all, it comes down to your decision though.

And my vote was for the IS300.

Is your IS300 manual? I know the earlier models only came in auto. If your car is an automatic, my choice would be to go the STI route, mainly because I like manual cars much much better, their more fun to drive! I voted for the STI, well because I like the looks and it has a mucho power, but mainly just because of the power.

i have to say the is300 is "dime a dozen" here in hawaii . i know a guy that has roughly 400hp in his. the real bottom line is that you will be giving up comfort and slip for grip and pure performance. when i mean slip(try reading latest issue of SCC magazine) you won't be able to have nice little burnouts anymore(not that its important )
but nothing beats holding a turn@45(with grip) when the *sign* says 15. me personally i would love to have an is300 only because i don't have a RWD anymore. i have a wrx and a sti and sometimes i wish(and miss) lighting up my rear once in a while.

BTW the fotos rock-good luck on getting euro/*** spec seats!

Ah, it's an auto. In that case my vote's going to have to lean towards the STi. A 6 speed beats out an auto any day of the week in my book.

I see your tough decision man, you got a very nice looking is300 but as you said since it's auto, I would deffinetly go with manual since it's more reliable, cheaper to fix when you screw it over, more fun, and that you have full control of the car i.e. slow the car down with downshifting etc.

Do you have to get rid of the IS300? It is pretty nice. You could daily drive the Sti and mod out the Lexus. THis may cut down on your chances of getting smog tickets. Drive it every once in a while. Of course, i have no idea of your finacial situation, just an idea . Nice car though. You should get buku trade in on it if your going that route. My vote is for the Sti . LOL for Subaru.
