Bad VIN on new car??
I just got my Imp wagon last weekend and now, carfax, my car insurance and my.subaru.com are saying the VIN is bad? Is it normal for new Subarus to not get the VIN proccessed or something?
Im confused and cant seem to get ahold of Subaru via phone, so waiting on email from them

What do they mean by a bad "VIN"? Maybe a number on your plate is messed up and you're giving it to them wrong? Match up the VIN on your plate to the paperwork from the dealer? I dunno

Bad as in, it doesnt show up in the national database of VINs.
I checked the paper work, and the car, the VIN's there match, so all I can think of is that someone put in a wrong code at subaru when they imputed the info into a computer someplace down the line....just my luck..so back to AutoWest Saterday bright and early to get it looked into.

when i bought the Mazda3, i called the next day to have it added to my policy and the VIN didn't register in their system, so she looked into it and had to do it by make/model/etc...
i think it has to do with the DMV and them getting it into the system for the registration. cus i believe that the ins co. uses a DMV based VIN system on all REGISTERED or prev reg VIN #'s so if this is the first time the vehicle has been purchased its possible its not up to date on the DMV database.
your ins co should be able to add it to the policy w/ the year/make/model and the VIN you give them manually entered.

Over last weekend I bought a 2006 Imp wagon. Now Im finding out that Carfax, my insurance company and my.subaru.com all are returning back and invalid VIN for my car.
Is it normal for new cars to not be in the national database for a while, or do I just have a car with a VIN that someone at Subaru messed up on?
Anyone have an experiance like this before?

Okay checked with Geico, and yes your right Pozzi Im one fo the lucky few who has a fast insurance co and a slow DMV/Auto sales person..
So now to wait 2-6 weeks and see what happens when the DMV registers the car.

Not for me. I always check do a record check in Carfax for my client's new cars. If they give me the correct VIN, it has always come up, even '06s. They may say, no records found, but it can still identify the vehicle.
