Actually, Ford is the one that uses the Mazda platforms to make their not so good cars.

Mazda makes very nice vehicles and is well know for how good their cars handle. Their test track is Leguna Seca for cryin' out loud. You just sound like a Suby fanboy "I hate this car because it does some things better than mine! Whaaaa!!!".

Stop acting all butthurt about comparitive reviews, no matter how you stack two cars against each other, ppl will almost ALWAYS complain that the comparisons are biased and unfair, you know how good your car is, what do you think ppl will think you suck cause your precious car was deemed the lesser of two in a car magazine comparison.

Jeezus christ, grow up and dont let someones stupid car magazine article hurt your feelings so much.

+1.

Booohooohoooo! Us STi owners have to sit there and listen to the Evo fanboys talk about how they have a "man's car" and we have a "boy's car," just because of what some dumbass British TV host with bad teeth and worse hair said. Think I care? Not hardly. Think I care what some Evo/350Z/Honda/etc. fanboy says about my car? Even less so.

Some people just need to grow up and enjoy their car. There's always going to be a better car out there. Just when all those Koenigsegg owners thought they were getting the fastest production car on the planet, out came the Bugatti Veyron. Now, just as they think they have the fastest, there's another one out there that's even faster. Unfortunately, I can't remember what it's called, but it's on the cover of the latest issue of DuPont Registry.

Lol.....
Whatever they said on Top Gear we all know the truth.
Mitsubishi has the weakest reliability and it's not the most trustworthy company out there. The reputation they have in Japan is pitiful due to Misubishi hiding factory defects rather than sending out recalls.

So Evo owners can think what they want.

Look.. guys.. put it into perspective. Each car has it's own advantages and disadvantages.

The Mazdaspeed 3 is fast and it's a well built car too - but it's still FWD. Put it out in the snow, ice, or gravel road and an AWD car will murder it performance wise.

We have to remember that these magazine guys also take everything into account and look at it from an "everyday street driver persepctive" so they fuss over things like leather heated seats, sunroofs, and cup holders for crying out loud!

edit:
So it really depends on what you want your car to do and what you want to do with it. What atracts me to the STi is its 300HP turbo powered 6-speed symmetrical AWD power train. All the extra options only get in the way, make the car more expensieve, weight it down and make it slower. It will go far more places and drive in conditions that most FWD or RWD cars could not even touch...

So when it comes down to it - you've got the Evo and the STi.

And for reasons stated within this thread and for personal preference - I choose the STi over the Evo. The Subaru reliablility and symmetrical AWD are hard to beat.

edit again:
Yes I know the STi is not the fastest track car out there - so what. It's reasonably priced, well-built, and kicks *** off-road. Let the Evo be 2 seconds faster around the TopGear track... just before it breaks down (heh).

Uhm, the Evo IX's AWD set up is mucho better than the STi's. So your just down to reliability now, which is mostly subjective.

I think everyone is missing the glaring reality that the OP has a problem with. I've read other car magazines and while the ms3 is fast, it's not as fast as an 06 tr. Secondly, the OP said that the magazine said that the 06 isn't as good or as fast as the 02......That is wrong in so many categories no matter how you look at it. No way can the 06 be slower than an 02, the writers and testers must have been shooting up or something when they wrote this. I don't know how they came to this conclusion but that's ridiculous.

Wow, it is odd to find mysel agreeing with Sinister, but you've got to be kidding with the above statement! Better AWD setup? Try looking up the WRC standings -- lots of EVOs in there, and lots of last-place and DNF results. Did you see the X Games Rally event? A dozen cars entered, two of them EVOs; they managed only 11th (essentially last) and 12th (DNF).

Sport Compact Cart had their recent Ultimate Street Car Challenge; the lone Evolution entered blew its head gasket 2 laps into a 5-lap race. Even a 1980s CRX managed to beat it in the point totals.

Yes I saw the X games and Yes I have the issue of SCC.

Where in in any part of your statement does it show the factory STI has a better AWD system than the factory Evo IX? Head gaskets and WRC cars have nothing to do with the AWD performance. The Evo probably just has more computer assistance, but it helps nonetheless.

It does have (alot) more software baked into it than the STI. But nowadays you can get software to make up for less than ideal hardware - hence the popularity of traction control & the like...But Subaru can always add similar software to the WRXs/STIs, can Mitsu turn their 4pot inline with the prop shaft?

So, where in any part of your statement does it show the factory Evo IX has a better AWD system than the factory STi/STI? Are we supposed to take your word for it because you "say so?" Provide some solid proof that the Evo has a better AWD system than the STi/STI does.

I wasn't responding to that part of the question; the real chuckle here is the idea that the reliability is the comparison that is subjective. Mitsubishi themselves withdrew as a team from the WRC due to their inability to finish races; all the EVOs in WRC right now are privateers.

Follow this link and check out the withdrawals from the latest New Zealand Rally. I count SIX EVOs that were DNF, and ZERO STIs. Certainly that is a small statistical sample and not ultimate proof, but if you keep combing through the results from this year you'll see a pattern. The idea that the reliability is just up to a coin toss is what I find hard to believe, considering the obvious results.
