I Do it myself. $30 for Mobil 1 and a new filter. 30 minutes of my time. Another 30 if I want to throw in a free car wash for myself
$50 for synthetic sounds about right. I do believe anywhere from $40-$60 for synthetic is standard.

I've got a friend who had a very nice car which had a bad encounter with a leaky oil jug; in the short trip to the auto shop the oil leaked out and saturated the carpet underneath the passenger seat. Three weeks of daily shampooing with deodorizer couldn't get the smell out; he eventually had to pay to get it reupholstered. If I can avoid having to store or transport the used oil, that's worth the $20 premium I get charged.
Oh, and even when I pay someone to do it, I stand around and watch them to make certain it gets done right

Meilers is right - used motor oil should always be disposed of properly and not dumped. Used motor oil is loaded with carcinogens and just a small amount can contaminate a much larger body of water. Over time it can leach from a dumping site to ground water to make its way into rivers and streams.
In CA, they don't generally charge a disposal fee for used motor oil. It used to be common for every Pep Boys or Kragen Auto Parts to accept used motor oil and ask each customer to fill out a contact sheet in case they discover the oil was contaminated with gasoline or other chemicals. My local Kragen accepts my used oil from my reuseable drain pan/bottle without questions, which probably isn't the wisest thing to do, but it works for me.
I have a Fumoto Oil Drain Valve and no longer have to replace that drain plug crush washer. No more dropped drain plugs into a hot oil bath, either.
I purchased OEM oil filters in bulk from SubaruParts.com to save on shipping. At the time, the cost came out to be less than $6 per filter. Other members have noticed that the OEM filters are manufactured by Purolator for Subaru but I've never bothered to check for this brand at my local parts store. I draw an index line across the bottom of the new filter using a SharpieŽ to make proper tightening easy to see, and I include the date as a reminder as well.
I just bought a case of six 5W-30 Mobil 1 the other day for $24.50 ($4.08/quart), plus .27 'oil fee' and sales tax.

I change it my self. It all comes about to be around $30 for Mobile 1 and a filter. I have an oil container pretty secure never had a problem with it. The autozone doesnt charge anything just come and they dump it for you. Advanced Auto parts makes you sign some piece of paper, but it is free also

The dealer offered me free oil cahnge as long as i had my car, but the dealer ship is located 30 miles from my house, and i thought the round trip of 60 miles was not worth it, and the never ending traffic to get there...
