How can you drop some weight in an STI?

Has anyone gotten rid of stuff and weight in an STI?
How much and how?
and by the way where do I get the weight balance specs for an 06 STI?

A list of components' weights from a WRX (GD chassis). The STi has thinner rear window glass. Most aftermarket exhaust pieces are lighter than the factory parts, especially if there is no catalytic converter (for off-road use, only ).

As far as weight balance, are you referring to simple front/rear balance from the factory? That info is published in better magazine test reviews.

For me it would take a one month supply of slim fast. Had a Honda 750 once and i asked my performance guy what a cheap performance upgrade would be, and he said" loose 50 lbs".

How much more weight can you take off if you change your hood to carbon fiber hood. I mean the hood itself is already paper weight.?

Even the aluminum WRX/STi hood weighs something. I may have read somewhere that the bugeye WRX hood weighs in at 15 lbs but have never had the hood off to weigh it for myself. A carbon fiber replacement will likely be lighter but make sure it's rugged enough for normal street use.

It's nice to put a car on a diet for racing purposes but try to live with a stripped down car on the street and the novelty wears off quickly. I took out my rear seat cushion (two capscrews) but replaced it after a week because you could hear a lot more road noise and the fuel in the gas tank constantly swishing around. Apparently, the foam cushion also acts as a sound barrier for that uninsulated area of the floor under the seat. Maybe saving 8 lbs is worth it to someone else?

There are some very nice lightweight competition and racing seats from manufacturers like Recaro. The nice models aren't cheap but do a better job of holding most people in the seat under lateral g-forces than the stock STi seats. Try before buying for proper fit.

Drive naked and make sure to always hit a bathroom before you leave...

Seriously though, one of the things I learned from the musclecar guys(who need to shed as many pounds as they can) is to just start taking things out that you know you dont need, and wont really impact your driving ability. Obviously its a little easier if you dont daily drive your car, but every little bit(theoretically) helps, and it does add up down the line. Also as has been mentioned, most after market parts weigh less then the OEM equivilent.
