Help! I'm new to the forums and wanted to ask a question....
Does anyone know what the "wind" sounding noise is in the back of the 99 impreza rs 2.5? It's been there ever since I bought the car and it drives me crazy!
The noise is there whenever I drive, no matter how fast or what conditions. It gets louder the faster I go...anyone have ideas what this is and how to get rid of it?

 

i have heard noise like this many times on different subarus (legacys, imprezas, loyales) sometimes we got rid of it sometimes not. its usually the molding that runs along the window/roof line. it has been the mirror on some cars though. fixing is hard, you just have to fiddle w/ the molding and gaskets. thats all the advice i have. sorry.

Do you think the dealership shop will be able to fix this?

 

if we haven't been able to fix it, we suggest they go to the dealer. and sometimes they can fix it. its not a bad idea. sometimes they know more about what causes the noise. and can pin point it quicker.

I got it fixed! My axel was broken (from all those pot holes!) and the noise it gone. Yeah!

 

ooook, or that....

 

dunno....I'm just happy it's gone!

 

was subaru able to tell you the prbolem with out taking it apart?? or did they do a test drive and tell you?

I was having other problems with the car. I took it to a mechanic recommended by a friend and he told me that my axle was broken.
I didn't know that would fix my noise problem because I searched the internet for advice and it sounded like the sound was a manufacturing issue. After he fixed the axle, the noise was gone and the mechanic didn't mention anything else that he did to fix the noise. Sorry can't be of more help.
