or there is a used 1994 Audi A4 down here for $3800

STi is a terrrible daily driver...actually I dont even consider it a car, its more of an expensive toy. Bad gas milage, uncomfortable ride, you have to worry about door dings/theft when parking.
Ive been looking to get a beater for commuting/short trips.

330i ZHP E46 for a luxorious DD that does decent gas mileage and performs as close to a WRX.
MR2 SC or AE86 for an older beater that will get you 25-30mpg has descent old school fun performance and reliable. Why get a Miata when u can get T-Tops and a roof on an MR2 SC.
S2k is a great choice if you decide to go with it. Just watch out for the crappy stock seats if you have a wider body.
DC2 GSR is another option but it's not a gas saver (as much as a WRX) and gets pretty loud when you start to get on it.

It's all relative. If you think the sti is a terrible daily driver try a totally built motor 5 liter w suspension etc. Sti is an econobox thats great for commuting and going crazy on the back roads. Mileage really isn't that bad

hondas are cheap, reliable get good gas milage and last forever the perfect DD in my opinion, they're just not very "fancy" (couldn't think of a better word)
My STi sucks as a DD. Ohlins coilovers have it riding rough and ADVANs aren't cheap so it comes out only when I'm wanting to drive and have some fun. I drive an Ford F-250 as the DD but I'm considering getting a new Tahoe. Trucks and SUVs are infinitely more confortable than any car I've ever been in. Easy to get in and out of and a pretty smooth ride. Plus you can haul **** when you need to.
I agree but would never recommend an STi as a daily driver (even to wrx owners)...dont get me wrong, its a great car (thats why I bought one!) but I do wish I could leave it in the garage most of the time. When people say "daily driver" they usually need something that gets from point A to point B relatively cheap and comfortable, the STi doesnt fit that description, plus it costs a lot to own with insurance and maintenance. It was even voted most uncomfortable car
But like you said, its all relative, as car enthusiests we can make certain sacrifices....even with all the cons I posted, I would hate to give up my STi.
