you were talking about steering ratio, any idea of the evo's ratio.
2003 Lancer Evolution = 13:1
2004 WRX = 16.5:1
2004 STi = 15.0:1
Rev-Lab Quick Rack (for WRX and STi) = 12.5:1

NOTE: Saab swapped the standard WRX rack for the STi rack for use on their versions of the WRX, as well as doing additional suspension tuning.

rock on wingless. thanks for the info

so there you have it. better than EVO rack ratio. i knew they made on for the older gc's, but that is even better news they make them for the current cars.

my decision gets harder....

I think that group buy took place in the Hawaii regional forum on this board.

dang it... i wanted one... anyone have any idea on how to find out the difference btw the spec c of 02-03 and the regular wrx/sti of the same year? because once you find the difference and fix that, i think the evo drivers will be shaking in their boots!

A while back i watched a video where they raced the JDM spec c WRX and EVO VII( I believe)in Japan. In one segment, they superimposed the image of one car over the other going through a turn. What was interesting was to see was how much of a tighter line the Evo was able to take (this one was equipped with the active yaw control). You could really see the WRX understeering like it was fighting itself through the corner whereas the Evo just rotated. The WRX won the race but the Evo had the fastest lap time. Just like STI and Evo here in the U.S., the WRX had the advantage in the straights and the Evo had it in the corners.

Maybe some day Subaru will bring active yaw control to the WRX and all will be right in the world...hopefully before gas is $4 a gallon.

I actually have that video, my friend bought it for me for my birthday. i do understand that the evo has a tighter line. however, there were certain things to be considered. one, the evo had wider tires and in my opinion, better tires too than the wrx spec c. also, the spec c was shown with a faster cornering speed than the evo. the way i see it, the evo here needs more power, and the sti's here needs more tuning on suspension which still includes tires. i honestly do believe that the subaru wrx/sti's can and will be faster on the track going straight or turns than an evo can. just my strong belief in the subaru design.

Everything I've ever read showed the STI to have better track times than the EVO if you were willing to push it.

well, i thought the tuner challange they did at buttonwillow was sorta unfair because they had tarzan driving the sparco evo and i dunno who driving the world one sti. but if it was the same drivers, i think the sti would've had faster times than the evo.

Is that in the BMI Impreza vs EVO video with the bugeye STi? I believe that version didn't even have DCCD. Now in 05 we have DCCD with yaw sensor. The current Spec C should go toe to toe with EVO (and MR at that).

personnaly I think that the hole driving experience is about feel... not numbers. You can have a car that feels fast that is more satisfiying then a faster car. That is, I believe, the true driver's way of thnking.

my 2 cents

i am very much biased toward subaru. i have had 5 of them, and am having the same EVO vs STi battle that seems like it will go on forwever (man i hope so...). i drove an EVO RS yesterday, and although the handling is nothing short of inspiring, the power was not as super duper as i thought it would be. it reminded me of the wrx. it just buzzes over 5.5k rpm. i KNOW mods will change that. dramatically.

what i like about the STi is the toque. torque is what makes cars fun to drive. and it what moves you. there is nothing like the torque of a big americam V8. it is just fun and the sound is great. i equate that to the STi. the boxer motor is awesome to listen to once opened up. this article now gives me hope on the handling department. i still think the feel will never be quite like the EVO, but this tuner sure seems to have make it similar, or that much better that the feel isn't what is being compared anymore. it looks like more castor(for the most part, a spec c suspension upgrade in front), their adjustable coilovers (where can you get those?) and the right geometry and alignment and they have made one great handling impreza. really all of that isnt that hard to accomplish. and the british roads are much like the roads we drive here in cali. hmmmmm......

thanks for the great resource. anymore info out there on the suby front to feed this fire?

josh
In addition to the four Type-25 articles, be sure to read the Spec C press here:

I also like this Top Gear comparison vid:

Another is the Best Motoring Evo vs. Impreza video, the link escapes me at the moment.
