the dreaded transmission question.

Well, Ive heard stories about WRX's and their less than perfect transmissions, but what about 2001 and prior RS'? Are they plagued with the same transmission problems or are they of a different design?

Actually, I was looking at '02-'03 WRX's but after reading about some of the transmission issues it kind of scared me away. I understand that not all WRX's have this problem, but Im thinking with my bad luck...

Anyway, an older RS would be cheaper in any rate, I was just wondering if it had transmission problems like the WRX's do.

Thanks for any help.

02/03 transmission is fine unless you know your gonna be launching your car/going over 280 awhp.

I'm not really sure about the older impreza's transmissions, but to my understanding subaru transmission have gotten stronger every year with the most durable being the 6mt.
I don't see how a 02-05 wrx transmission would be weaker then a NA pre wrx impreza.

Well its just Ive read quite a few posts about people who were just driving their cars regularly and they were stock and the transmissions still blew. But I havent heard of or been able to find any posts regarding older transmission problems.

well the people who are driving stock imprezas and blowing their transmissions need to take drivers ed. the transmission is fine unless you beat on the car really hard. like popping the clutch and trying to burnout or very hardshifting. also, if you have a lot of horsepower like 300/350 and up your tranny aint gonna last that long.
