Dodge SRT-4
I saw super2nrtv the other day and sport compact car was giving out its 1st annual car of the year award. the sRT-4 won. they made a pretty good choice. i love the wrx but the srt-4 is $20k and supposedly they said it can out run the rex. they took the car to the drag strip and ran it at 1/4 mile at 14 seconds flat at over 100mph. that is quick. that car is a good buy for the buck. they said you don't need to put any catback on the car because it sounds nice stock and it does. although it is a dodge is why i wouldn't consider buying one. i just do not believe in domestics. Love the rex, but the srt4 is going to be hell of a challenge on the road. Car and driver tested the 02 rex at 14.1 for the quarter. if that is true then it will be a matter of who drives there car better to see if the rex or srt4 would win. I'D STILL TAKE THE REX.

Pit them against each other again in a year or two and if the Neon is still running it will prolly leave its rusted rear end at the line and a trail of parts all the way to the finish line. The SRT is a nice looking, fast car, but I have owned Neons in the past and Dodge quality on the Neon leaves much to be desired.

i traded my neon RT in on the WRX i have now........yeah.......world of difference. i know that the SRT-4 would crap on the RT but the fit and finish of that dodge was no good. stuff just fell apart. the car didn't handle all that well either.....i wanna see what one will do in a twisty race down a mountain road!!!!

I don't know about it "doing crap around turns." I heard from alot of SRT-4 owners that it handles very well for being open-diff. It's hard to compare it though with an AWD car with LSD vs. a high-powered FWD open-diff car. It does really well for what it has on those skinny tires.
srt-4
One ran down at the midnight drags this past weekend. He made a 14.4 pass, and then a 14.7, and another 14.4. Pretty impresive for a stock $20k car. It even looks decent. I'm impressed that chrysler/daimler has produced a car of that caliber for that price. Imports don't fight the labor laws, and unions that domestic motor companies deal with, thus allowing them to build better quality cars for a low price. You have to give props to chrysler for doing so. Although turbo upgrades might be a pain with the srt-4 being that the turbine housing is cast together with the exhaust manifold. I'm sure we'll see some fast neons here in the next few years.

still glad there is a cheap american car that can compete for the price range. Will make others have to do the same but, the bad things massive torque steer, the stated dodge quality, poor resale value, high insurance rates, and the worst........Power windows for front seats, crank down windows for rear seats. It the coolest thing ever and you can even get it on a neon spensive one.

The seats are awesome. The shifter sucks though. And I talked to some SRT owners about how the car drives, and its got nasty torque steer out the wazoo and its hard to keep the power down due to the fwd non-LSD configuration. I took a look at the suspension, and Its not much of a suspension at that
Nice car for the money though, but ill still take a Mazdaspeed protege over it.

I go to high school in a pretty wealthy area, its kind of like a battle of the cars at my school. I have few friends who have WRX's including myself. There is a kid at my school who just got an SRT-4, and let me tell you that frontmount intercooler looks bad ***! But still when you talk to someone that dosent know cars like we all do, they all say the same thing "It's a neon dude." Which in my mind says it all, the rex is still the crowds favorite. But I think the kid with the Hamann 330ci beats all of our cars.

I test drove the Srt-4 and it's okay I guess. The exhaust is annoying as hell (too loud for stock). It rattles and backfires and sounds like crap. I guess that's one way dodge got a little more horsepower out of the car, is by having a free flow exhaust. So, to make things fair between the SRT-4 and the WRX, let's add an exhaust to the WRX. How about a TurboXS turbo back??? It'll still be quieter than the Srt-4 and probably run heads up even with it now.
But just like everybody says ITS STILL A NEON!

Probably, since that's not the case at all. Pocket rockets have been around for a long time. The WRX is certainly not the first, and the SRT-4 is not AWD and lacks any LSDs. It has almost nothing in common with the WRX besides being a pocket rocket. Feel free to explain why you think it's a knock-off of the WRX.
