Civic EX FP?
I had read in Car & Driver a while back that Acura will be offering their RSX Type-S FP, which adds slotted rotors, a stiffer suspension, ect. and brings the price to $29K or so.
In the current issue of Road & Track I read that the first FP (Factory Performance) car they will market in the US will be the Civic EX FP. The thing that I found interesting is that it is the EX Coupe body style, but they said it has the 160 hp engine in it (along with better rims, suspenion, ground effects). Supposedly the FP was only going to focus on handling characteristics for now, but an compared to the EX engine the 160 Hp engine is a nice step up in power. What I always disliked the most about the Si was the new bodystyle, but I actually like the way the EX looks.
At first I thought this was a cool idea, but then they stated what it would cost. They said it adds about $4500 to the price of the EX and I was like whooaa. Even though it would cost more to buy a Civic and make those mods yourself, $21000 just seems too much to pay for a Civic.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this or more info?

yeah, totally agree with you. it's so stupid to so much "accessories" on your car that's gonna cost you 5G, on top of that, you need to pay dealer the installation fee. which sound like totally BS to me.....

Avoid the coupe if you want performance. The coupes are the heaviest. The sedans are about 50lbs lighter and the little Si quite a few lbs lighter than that. The civic Si was always a small hatchback except for that POS they sold back in '97 in that electron blue.

I believe you're mistaken. Looking at www.edmunds.com at both the Civic EX and LX with the same transmission and no side airbags, the sedans are 50 pounds heavier than the coupes.

Glad you brought that to my attention, you're dead right. In the past the civic coupe has been heavier than the sedan and the hatchbacks have been very lightweight. This had to do with the large door (and subsequent large hinges) and the sloped roof on the civic coupe.
According to Honda's webpage the weights can range from:
2449 lbs - 2601 lbs for the sedan
2402 lbs - 2554 lbs for the coupe
2744 lbs for the si (!!!!!)
(this is all with a manual transmission)
Well, screw Honda! They can't even get the Si down to a reasonable weight! Seriously though, the coupe is very light by modern car standards... even though it's been styled into a chick car

I agree that Honda's prices are getting a bit too high. Even for the regular Civic EX. The current Si was proof of that, the price was so high they couldn't sell them without huge discounts. I went to Honda's website and it is commical the way they act like the Civic is such a sporty car for a good price. They are trying to milk the fact that so many have riced out their Civics, you know what I mean if you have seen that Civic commercial where all the hooked up Civics are driving together.
I liked the look of the Accord FP, but they say it is not going to look like it did at the SEMA show. What is that thing going to cost, 30k+ for an Accord? I'll take a G35 thank you.

Heh, yeah. The civic was a popular car to modify for a long time because of the many different manifestations of the b-series engines, the over-rated A arm suspension and the low prices. Is it just me, or did Honda ruin all 3 qualities that made the civic great?

no its not you.. they did ruin the civic. They tried to make more money by scraping the old suspension and b-series, then they jacked up the price a couple grand. needless to say I wont be buying a new honda anytime soon
