Wink

Get the STi...spend the money you would have had to use to fix the 02 Bimmer ($$$ for the smallest problem, and they're not reliable) on sound proofing the entire interior of the STi and getting a nice sound set up...tint the windows and partially debage the STi...and learn how to spit some game. That way, you'll get girls because you can talk to them (instead of just whatever car you have), and when they finally do get in your car it'll feel just as 'nice' as the bimmer (low noise, good sound, etc...) AND you'll be able to torch Mustangs. That should show any girl that not only do you demand performance and luxory, but that you're smart about it too.

Hahaha...just my opinion though...BMWs have been overated for the past 20-30 years...

If you need a $30k+ car to get women, neither one is going to help you that much. If you want to compare them to each other for what they do and don't do, you'll probably only like one or the other.

That makes no sense. For the money you spent on the WRX, you could have had an off-lease 3.2TL or a new TSX or any of a dozen cars that are more suited for pimping down the strip than a rex. And if you think $30k is wasted on an STi, you don't drive hard often, or at least you've never done it in a good car.

They're two totally different vehicles, so "better" is in the eye of the beholder. For you, a Bimmer* is better, for others it's a Subaru, other's like Toyota or Porsche. Point is, an M3 is not even a real comparison to the Impreza STi - rwd vs. awd; NA vs. Turbo; Japanese vs. German; economy car vs. luxury car.

I disagree abotu the M3 and STi not being comparable; they are for the simple fact that they are both about getting around racetracks and down backroads as fast as possible. The BMW (mostly) makes up for it's higher cost by providing a higher comfort level and more extraneous features like nav and better stereo and such.

OK, I'll give that to you, but you left out one very pricy feature that distinguishes the two: status.

Status with whom? M3 owners that track their cars give props to the STi for being damn good at going fast. If you're referring to people who don't really know cars and go by brand recognition, then yes, the BMW has the edge.

Word. My opinion is that there are VERY few differences in the quality of Subarus vs BMWs:
1)BMWs have sound deadening, more leather, higher quality stock stereos, nav, etc (things that can all be added to a suby)
2)The suspension on bimmers (other than the M3 and M5) is softer...so not as ready to carve through the hills, but a little more comfortable on the freeway. (again, you could make a suby ride like a bimmer...if you wanted to de-tune the suspension).
3)longevity: subarus, even turbo'd ones, will last longer for less $ in maintainence than bimmers. I have a friend with a 3 series (forget which one, but it's not very fast). She's had it 4 years and has already spent more than $8,500 in repairs to get it up to 45k miles. And she drives very conservatively, always changes oil, etc...the car is just a crap pile. On the other hand, subarus last ( search this forum for tons of great examples.)

Basically it comes down to the age old question of fashion vs function. The girls I like to attract recognize that I value function (a timeless quality) over fashion (that which changes often). So for me, it's a no-brainer...I'd never buy a bimmer, even if I was really rich. I'd get a supercar (prolly Saleen S7) and turn my WRXWagon into the ultimate road trip machine.
