back to subaru? G35C to STI...
hello. i know i don't post much here as my screen name describes. i'm a subaru and nissan fan. i want to say that the people over here are much more driver/performance oriented than the G35/maxima/some Z forums! lately i've been thinking about trading my G35Coupe for a late model STI. i miss my dad's 02' wrx and how it drove. he traded it for a monstrous bmw 550i. his new car is awesome, but i'm not a true fan at heart. i miss the WRX's trunk space and how i can load a surfboard on the roof. i miss how i can fit 4 passengers comfortably and still drive spiritedly, boxer sound/turbo power, tuning potential, AWD and it's aggressive nature! stuff i don't miss: the smallish fuel tank and mediocre range (although my G35C averages about 320 mi tank with a gallon left and has an 18.5gal capacity), the interior quality and driver position, grinding reverse and 1st gear at standstill. the G35 has heated leather seats which are shaped perfectly and pedals better for heel/toe. i could go on and on about stuff that has been mentioned a million times, but my main motivation would be the practicality and slightly less cost in the long run. the G35 can be tiring after a while. it's kind of like a high maintenance hott chick lol. i stupidly keep coming back because it looks good! please note i haven't crunched the numbers yet. i still might take a hit from this trade. BUT, to someone here who has done the transition, are you happier with the cost of ownership? how's the quality in the newer models? are you happy to be back in a faster car out of the box? haha
If you really want Subaru STI trade your G35 in for one.
The quality of the interior in the STI is excellent.
Your right they are quick cars right out of the box.
Personaly I would much rather a STI over a G35 anyday.

If you have fuel economy woes with the G35, you're not going to like the STi. It has a smaller gas tank than the G35 at ~16 gallon capacity and much worse fuel economy if you are an aggressive driver.
The STi is a better handling car overall than the G35, with better acceleration, but you pay the price with a stiffer suspension than your dad's '02 WRX when driving around town on rough roads/potholes.

Well, if you drive up to a Suby dealer in a G35 coupe, I don't think they'll have any problem letting you test drive an STI. That way you can make a much more confident decision on whether to keep it or trade it.
The STI has 6 speed manual that doesn't suffer any of the downfalls of your dad's 02 WRX. You will, however, find yourself shiftiung quite a bit more with the closer gear ratios.
And... if you like the boxer engine sound, go with a turback exhaust and an ECU reflash. It's like ear sex when you hear it for the first time
