Anyone have a GPS system/software?
I get lost... Plain and simple. It's actually pretty horrible how I get lost. Make a long story short. Yesterday I was suposed to go to a Subaru meet... I got directions it was only 14 miles from where I work... and I ended up driving for 2 hours and was around 60 miles away from where I should have been... this would not have been the first time either... lol I am always getting lost.
I plan on getting Earthmate GPS Receiver with the Street Atlas USA 2004. Does anyone have this or could recommend good GPS software. The above software and receiver will work with my laptop... which is cool with me because I can't stand looking at a screen that is only 6-7 inches and having to squint... I'd rather use my lappy's 15" screen, or I could mount a custom 15" flatpanel screen in my car, that is cool with me. The Earthmate uses a receive that hooks into the USB port so it's very simply, I actually opened one at work and was testing it out to see if it was any good. Unfortuntlly though it doesn't really work in building plus I had it installed on a desktop.
Thanks :-)

I have the USB Earthmate and SA 2004 and it is pretty slick. There is a huge learning curve for the software but once you kind of know what you are doing, it's great. It has great voice turn by turn directions and you can hook up an external mike for voice activation. For the money, you really can't beat it.
I bought one a little while back...
I bought a Garmin e-Trex vista for the following reasons. I wanted something very small that I could throw in a pocket when hiking, walking around a city, and geocaching. The e-Trex vista has like 24 meg of memory which is sufficient for what I use it for. It is also waterproof, which was another requirement for me. I have hooked it up to my laptop and used both Microsoft Mappoint and Garmins Mapsource with good success. The screen on my Vista is small, but sufficient for what I use it for. And again, it is about the size of a mobile phone and easy to transport. It came in really handy when we vacationed in Hawaii and Amsterdam... especially when you want to stumble home from the coffee shop.

I got the Earthmate GPS for my laptop. It is actually pretty cool! I just need to get a laptop mount for my car... I had my gf holding my laptop in the passenger seat... We were driving around and it showed where I was going..etc I went to a parking lot and just started to go around in circles and it showed that too!
I'll get pics up soon of it, I have to find my cf card reader.
Thanks,

i'm tellin ya............go with the garmin StreetPilot 2610. that GPS is great. it has a touchscreen option which is really fast and easy to use. the voice commands are vety clear. the womans voice tells you exit numbers, how far away from you next turn you are, how many miles you need to go to the next waypoint, and all kinds of other goodies. the color screen and moving map are very easy to read....at sundown the screen changes over to lowlight backround. it has all the streets and resturaunts and everything you could imagine stored in the program.
look into it....it should run right arounf $500 bucks!!!

I just got a Garmin 2720 GPS... freaking LOVE IT!
Puts my Delorme gps mate for my laptop to shame without a doubt!
Best money I have spent that I actually see that is completly worth it!
Now I don't have to worry if I will ever get lost going ANYWHERE... Put in the address and bam, tells me estimated arrival time..
My fav feature is the "max speed" of the unit... For some reason I am always trying to beat my previous speed...lol I gotta beat 120 for my next trip :-)
