Okay, this "friend" i have has been annoying the hell out of me. First of all, he goes off by telling me that he killed an evo last weekend at the track. He said he talked to the owner afterwards and the owner of the evo said that it was stock. So he goes on about comparing an evo to my wrx. Which is like comparing apples and oranges basically.(should be comparing it with the sti). I told him that i would take him to the track and race him. But he said that theres no point-WASTE OF GAS! I am serioulsy heated right now. Hes got a 96 vette with a torque converter(lol), cat-back exhaust, and a cracked front fiberglass bumper that he hasnt gotten fixed in about 2 years. I just have a turboback exhaust, samco ic hoses, k&n air filter, bov, mbc, unichip and an uppipe that will be going in on friday. Will I have a chance at all? Is it really a waste of gas for him?

I am an owner of a vette (older than the one metioned) and in order to be fast you gotta have dah skillz (this is not to imply that i have them). Anyone can drive in a straight line, but a vette is tough on a tight track.
I am always impressed with the vette drivers at the auto-x races. That takes a an impressive amount of finesse.
Go for it. He's your friend, and it would be fun. Plus imagine the bragging and schizz talking rights you'll have when you beat him.

Hmmm for some reason I thought IS300 was referring to drag racing, dunno why... well, were you?! 'Cuz that's what I was referring to!
i was replying to drag. but even at autox he claims i have no chance. something about vettes always winning the autox championship?? i dunno. anywho, hes got an automatic. no offense to automatic owners (i drove automatics until this car), but all you have to do in a drag is hold the brake and rev it till whatever rpm and just go when the tree hits green.......any idiot can drive automatic. (this kid is def one of the biggest idiots i know). so i dunno. Is there anychance i can take him and any of those fields? (autox and drag). I know that the only way to find out is to actually do it, but englishtown is closing this week i believe. if it does, then i guess, he can talk and talk all he wants.

Is it a 97 or a 96? Your subject says 97 then your post says 96. Anyways, the first AutoX I ever went to I rode with a friend in his Miata, his only mods are front sway bar, roll cage and some Falken Azenis. There was a very nice vette there that got trailered in, fancy paint job etc. I don't know about mods on the vette, but the Vette's best time was 0.2s faster than the Miata. It was a twisty course. I say do both types of races, he'll most likelyl trample you in the 1/4, but show him up in the twisties (where more skill is involved).

drag - it's a vette, dude. You're almost certainly going to lose.

Sorry man but a V-8 vette against a subie in a 1/4 mile isn't going to be pretty. You're going to need an awesome launch and some outstanding luck to win. He's got you out matched by about 100 hp and even more torque for a car that weighs 100 lbs more. Good luck though.

he says the friends an idiot, the cars an auto, and doesnt have the beauty of AWD...vettes are high 12s low 13s w/ a good driver ...his rex is prob what? mid 13s?...its worth a shot IMO...do both. good luck!
I ran a newer vette at the track last week and won. I've only got a TXS TBE and an MBC.
The problems with the vette are as follows:
20" spinners (yes, the rims that spin)
multimedia system
he waited until the green light to get on it
He never caught up, it was on an 1/8 mile track. Tell your friend to put +200lbs worth of junk in it and then race him.
