Question 05' Sti vs. Evo MR

I'm a newbie here and I don't know a lot of technical stuff about these two cars so excuse me if i sound a little e-tarded when asking this question ;-P

I will soon be in the market to buy one of these badboy's but i am torn. Which one should I get, and how will this benefit me? I'll probably want to go beyond daily driver tuning and from what I've heard so far, they are too close in overall potential to say one is better than the other. All I know is that the Sti is a 2.5 and the Evo is a 2.0 - techinically this would mean that the STi has more aftermarket potential and would to be a quicker car in the longrun, right?

ehhhhh the evo's block has more potential. its castiron and has been around for more than a decade. vishnu has a kit for 550HP.... i think its only $6k? dont let the displacement fool you.

theyre both awesome cars. i think the sti has alot better throttle response stock than the evo but then again the evos suspensions better than the sti's stock so its a wash. i like the sti's looks so i have one. haha. i think evos are hideous. i also prefer the sti's interior to the evo's, and when i bought my sti only the 5spd evos were available.

I understand the STI is a much more civilized daily driver but its only what I hear.

i think of it as the STi being more matured and more responsible to drive has lots of potential. kinda like a supra. Evo's are for the young kid who wants power instantly no mods just all go and stupid. if you build your car right it becomes part of your personality.

Right. Is that why vishnu has an Evo?

the folowing is personal opinions only...

I think there is litle objectivity in your statement. Actualy I would compare the STI beeing kind of like a Ford Mustang GT, big power but less refined suspension and chassis, and the EVO beeing like a Mazda RX-7, less power but AMAZING handling and tossability.

The young kids love it because they have seen it in '' The fast and the furious '' , put the STI in the movie and next thing you know is they all want one because it trows multicolor flames from the exhaust!!!

I don't agree with this at all... both are worthy competitors... STOCK the evo puts out more boost, and all the 2.5 over the 2.0 block does is add more low end unboosted torque. The block on the evo is awesome, as is the JDM 2.0 block on the STI. I still don't understand why they have to downgrade the US imprezas We want twinscroll!

I've driven the Evo and it didn't feel lacking in power at all. There is definitely more OOMF in the STI, but there is much more finess in the Evo.

Now I do believe in the US market, the STI gives you more bang for the buck, considering that the Evo is detuned from the JDM market. But I for one am seriously looking at getting an MR.

If they had put subarus as the main cars in 2f2f there'd be decals and ricing galor on that too. Don't hate on the car because of the movie.
