there are 2 ways to determine if u still have sufficient tread. there are strips of rubber called "wear bars" that run diagonally to the tread pattern in certain intervals. if your tread is close to or past these bars it's worn out. the other way is to take a penny and stick it in between the tread with the queen headfirst. if the tread doesn't go past her head then it's no good.
for shocks, i heard that the stock suspensions are ok w/ different agx shocks? or are the stock shocks ok w/ different suspensions? my car is way too soft right now...
i'm probably going to screw up this explanation so if ne1 reading this finds something wrong please correct me...
springs and shocks are usually a matched combo. when u change to a shorter, stiffer spring, the stock shock is not able to handle the higher rates and damping suffers. the reduced ride height also causes a stock shock to lose the effective stroke length it was designed to operate in. both of these cause the shocks to fail prematurely.
i read of lots of people getting away with not changing shocks, but if u are doing it late in the game, with parts that already have a good amount of mileage on it, i don't expect it to last long.

wow those are great explanations!! ahh. i get it now.
i just don't like the stock suspension/shocks right now. hmm. but i dont wanna 'lower' my car a whole lot either. so i need to change the whole set? i think the stock ones have been through quite a bit of mileage. accept the front right...
do you guys have your's changed? pros/cons?
wear bars on tires? umm. i tried the penny thing. it's kinda on the crown part? yeah i think i need new tires. in rain it's still good. and it's getting rainier and rainier.

just the crown? wow that's shallow
how much mileage does your car have?
being an everyday driver i wouldn't recommend coilovers as they require fussy maintenance, especially if they aren't aluminum or chromoly, which are mega $$$.
have u tried talking to the guys at total? maybe there is a prodrive setup that works for u...

I don't want to put words into the mouths of the guys at Total; however, I'm quite sure that they'll probably agree with me in saying that the KYB AGX/Eibach combo is a good setup to go with.
You have your 4 levels of adjustment in the front and 5 in the rear with your KYB AGX; they're a nice intermediate-ish level shocks, and you will have some springs with slightly higher springs rates (not really that high) that lower your car only 1 inch all around initially before sagging to an extra quarter of an inch in about 2-3 months.
I can now fit 2 fingers between the tire of my car and the fender; I have had my combo for about a year now, but I really haven't been reefing on the suspension, just street use.
Don't get me wrong though these things are quite capable of handling autoX and track and mabbe even some beginner rally.

i just swapped these tires b/c of the rims. remember those ugly weird rims i had b4? now i got different ones and i just got rid of the old ones. i just got these not long ago, but they didn't have much left on them. so i was looking for tires too.
yeah, i heard agx had a good set up with adjustables. 1" isn't bad. i don't wanna lower my car too much. but are they expensive tho?
