after the recall the MAF sensor is not as easily blow as before
the stock setting on MY99 is super lean !
so after u install the intake... the car run even leaner !
therefore u need SAFC to tune it so it pump more fuel .......

the problem with the my99 is that the MAF is known to blow very easily, so a intake system make it worst. once it blows, your car won't run properly and around $400 to replace
MY00-01 don't have a MAF

so how much is this SAFC. do ppl do it? and what's the benefit of changing it. does it consume more fuel? but you get more power? hmm.... we can't just take out the MAF right.... i wonder why they did that...
i'm looking for a new set of rims/tires. any good suggestions? but affordable of course. thank-you!!

With a MAF you car won't run leaner with an intake, since a MAF actually measures the amount of air unlike a MAP based car. I think for the same reason a MAF makes it easier to meet emissions laws.
The only way to switch from MAF to MAP would be to replace the entire engine managment.

Best bang for the buck for rims are Rota but they are replica wheels. Cheapest wheel I can think of is Black Racing Pro N1 which are around $300 Canadian each for 17". Enkei RPM2, OZ, Speedline, etc are all at least $380+ per rim. You can probably pick up some 16" Impreza wheels pretty cheap if you're really on a budget.

it sounds like u do a lot of driving. are u concerned that u might not make it thru the winter with what u have now? if the answer is yes then yeah i think u should change now if u can afford it.
as for shocks everyone seems to go for the agx setup as a more realistic economic setup. not sure what spring to recommend though.

i drive to and from ubc everyday. in any weather... even tho it's only to richmond, it's still a bit of distance back and forth. i'm not sure how much thread is left on these tires. and i don't know how to check either. so if it doesn't snow, then i'm fine. but if it snows, then it might be dangerous....
for shocks, i heard that the stock suspensions are ok w/ different agx shocks? or are the stock shocks ok w/ different suspensions? my car is way too soft right now...
ken: how much is your friend selling them for? are they new? thx!

Jo,
i'm assuming you are referring to shocks and springs.
both shocks and springs are supportive structures for the car, but yet are supportive structures for each other.
as you can imagine, if a car has shocks but no springs, then the shocks will wear out quite quickly.
this is the same when applying to a combination of aftermarket shocks and stock springs, or vice versa.
if you have aftermarket shocks which are stiffer but springs that are not also as stiff (spring rate) then the shocks are not getting help in support and they will fail sooner.
same goes for springs. if you have performance springs with high spring rate (stiffer) but stock shocks, then there isn't an equal distribution of weight between shocks and springs, thus the springs will take most of the weight of the car and fail sooner.
so, if you are considering buying aftermarket springs, but not shocks then go for springs that have a lower spring rate, or one that is close to stock.
i really do not recommend buying shocks without aftermarket springs cause shocks are more for performance (than for lowering) and are always stiffer, hence, stock springs will not support the aftermarket shocks.
hope this is clear to you.
