Fuuuuuu.... hope you have your receipts in order. That's going to be a mighty expensive repair bill for her insurance company.

In this situation, will the insurance company return the car to how it looked before the accident/incident OR to OEM specs of the VIN number?

They will base the value of the car on KBB/Edmunds etc, value of the car with it's miles and age.

So that is how they will determine total or rebuild.

But payout would be based on the value of the car and the parts IF he has all the receipts and/or photographic evidence.

Many things will depend on how good her coverage is/was and how good his is since hers will probably fall short.

So damage assessment will be based on the parts ruined and what it will cost to get it back to the way it is. Value of the car is based of value of the car... so when you have stuff like this it's tough to avoid a total.

So... say KBB or whatever they're using puts it at... $14,000.

Now you consider... wheels, suspension, paint, body parts... Say damage total hits $23,000. They'll total it. So because of said parts it's gonna be totaled. That's my guess.

That's what happened to my buddies bike. If the frame was stock they would have probably fixed it but the frame was a 1946 knuckle and the paint was custom... those two things combined equaled a total.

That's the crap part. But maybe they'll fix it. I've been wrong before.

but for comparison... I had a quote for a new door.... $2800. That's a new door, new tint, paint blend, etc. ONE DOOR!

Figure this is custom paint so it HAS to match. That's pretty much painting the whole car. New fender. New bumper. New or repaired doors. The wheels and the bent suspension parts. Fix the oil pan. Alignment. Tires. Wheels.

I see this hitting $20k really really fast.

So my hope is that he has all his receipts in order so they don't total it out and offer him $15,000 for it... if he has his receipts in order he'll get paid out for value.

Friggin crappy situation.

I really hope it works out for the best.
