you or significant other in the medical field?

Then you'll know what I mean...

I've been going in to have my shoulder looked at. Well my wife can see my results. So I get calls like I dud today... oh it says you have this... then I get to do my own research and scare myself until the apt.

Results of X-ray... degenerative disc disease in my neck and probably lower back. MRI results yet to come...

Yeah!

Sounds like a classic HIPPA(medical privacy) violation. Your freinds or wife shouldn't look at your medical file just because she works there; especially, if they are not directly involved in your case/care. That is a violation against HIPPA. It's a federal law to protect your medical privacy which applies to all medical facilities within united states. If you report this, he/she can get into issues such as adminstration leave, termination, or even fines. I work at hospital. I don't look up files of my families or freinds. Avoid direct care as well. Just better that way.

Such issue can get intrusive if there are testing such as HIV, HEP B,C....

This. Seriously, when she "breaks the glass" a flag is thrown and a report will be generated. At least this is how it works where I work...

That's just stupid. My wife can see all she wants. I gave her the password to my files.

What I was referring to is what anyone in the medical field deals with... self diagnosis. Hippa... wtf. Yeah I'm gonna turn my wife in for looking at files I gave her access to. Man, some people take themselves to seriously.

firstly, sorry for the bad news on those xrays.

Secondly, I think they're looking out for your wife. I'm sure no one here will turn you in, but what they're saying is true. I actually work in the privacy department at my hospital, and employees that look up family does trigger a flag to departments like mine. The first time it is a warning, but some places may be more strict.
Ryball, sounds like you work a kp too?

I know all about hippa and hippa violations. She has permission from me and accessed my files through the online personal system... NOT the Med office system. She is very good at her job and follows all laws to the T.

Someone delete this. I don't want some righteous dim wit taking this farther.

Seems no one understands what I was getting at.

Wife did nothing wrong and I don't need sympathy. Back pain isn't gonna keep me from snowboarding or doing anything else I love.

O.k.

First, its not really a disease. Secondly the degenerative part is misleading. It doesn't necessarily mean it will continue to degenerate. Just means it HAS degenerated.

As to the post... was meaning to make humor that medical field folks often self diagnose. And when you get just enough info to be dangerous you often stress over nothing...

Clear?
