why does everyone i talk to seem to think that radar detectors are illegal in teh state of CA?

that's always the first question...

other person: "aren't they illegal?"

i would pick one up right now, but that would tempt me into a false sense of security to speed again.

 

heh. cause the last 2 states I lived in they were illegal. You start to get the sense that it's just that way everywhere.

the reason radar detectors will never be illegal in CA is because radar guns are technically illegal in CA. Back about twenty years ago when all the different states were buying radar guns for their state police some groups here in CA fought to get it put on a general election wether or not we would let the CHP use them, well guess what, we overwhelmingly voted it down, the CHP said "well we already bought all these guns so kiss our ***, we're still going to use them". Fine then, we'll keeping using radar detectors
