X-Box 360 vs. PS3 - anyone have both?
Hi,
Anyone have both an X-box and PS3?
Which do like better/play more?
Which one is gathering dust?

Although, I recently got a Wii and I have been playing a lot of that and the Xbox is getting dusty. Although there aren't a lot of good mature games for the Wii Super Mario Bros and Mario Kart are extremely good.

FYI - I have two friends with both, but the TV's each has can only support two connections and they are both set up the same way - Wii and Xbox, neither one uses their PS3.
They both said the online gaming for X-Box is superior as well as the controller.
I really don't want to buy two expensive game consoles, so I was looking for more input from people that own both.
Thanks.

I prefer the PS3 controller but it could be cause it's the same design it's been since the PS1. I've tried the Xbox controller and didn't like it. Reminded me of the Nintendo 64 controller and I hated that thing. What also steers me away from the Xbox is the rate of failure. I also have a Wii that collects dust. It was fun for a little while and it's more fun with more people.

If your friends are using xbox for online play, wouldn't it make more sense that you use one too?
The xbox has the edge over the PS3 for online gaming. The PS3's only real added value is the bluray player and GT5 is supposed to come out around 2015.
If it adds to my case, I have both and play xbox more because that's what I had first, I pay for xbox live so I might as well use it, and xbox is what my friends use.
The PS3 gets used every once in a while, but it's mostly my glorified bluray player.

ps3 due to blu ray movies.
both. right now, if i find a HD DVD movie i like and it's like under $10, or even $5, then i'll boot up the 360. or, if i need to get my DiRT1 fix, then 360.
otherwise, the ps3 sits while waiting for GT5 or like recently, a BD movie. right now, KICK *** is sitting in the ps3... it's a week old.
for the record, i have a Wii also... but that collects more dust until my nephews come and visit and it gets used 24/7 by them... lol...

I have a Wii...trying to figure out what to get...was thinking PS3 but then I found out the X-box seems to be more "playable" I don't need another Blu Ray player.

for the time of gamer i am i prefer xbox. yes you have to pay for online access and the non-slim versions are louder than my Dyson vacuum but i still prefer it.
Xbox Pros and Cons
- good controllers
- great games
- surprisingly good tech support
- loud
- prone to failure, though i have never had a single xbox or 360 fail
- not as sexy looking as PS3
PS3 pros and cons
- fastest hardware... to bad nothign takes advantage of it...
- controller designed for children/pigmy hands
- game charecters always resemble emo band members
- Final Fantasy series is the only reason to own it.
all the blockbuster titles are multiplatform (COD, mortal combat, etc) and the game series i care most about (halo) is xbox only.
easy decision for me since Halo is xbox only but really there is no "best system" only the one you prefer.
I own both as well. Honestly, my PS3 is nothing but a DVD/Blu-ray player. There are exceedingly rare occasions when I'll play something on my PS3, but that's been for PS3 exclusives only: Uncharted and God of War, specifically. As noted by Irrational X, the PS3 controller (for me) is just too damn small. I also don't care for the left analog stick placement; I just find the 360 controller much, much more comfortable.
While PS3's online play is free, it's also not very robust. I'm quite happy to pay the $50/yr for Xbox Live, especially when you can typically get it cheaper through Amazon, etc (often down to $30). Even more important (again, for me) is that you can install any of your 360 games to the harddrive, which makes the system WAY more quiet. You need to have the disc in the tray as a check, but otherwise it's not used by the system at all during play. Makes late-night gaming when the wife is asleep much better.
My only real complaint of the 360 is stability. I've had 5 red rings of death (RRoD), and my brand new S model (not even two months old yet!) seems to be flaking out on me, too. On the new systems, it warns you if it's too hot and will shut itself down, but I keep getting these weird E82 errors, which apparently are the new RRoD. Microsoft is really good about the returns process, and you can even have them ship you a replacement first, but it's still kind of frustrating. At least this one's dying BEFORE a big game comes out (Reach, anyone?); I had one die in the middle of BioShock, and that pissed me right the hell off. :P

i drilled about 100 small holes in the bottom of the media center and more in each shelf for ventilation and installed two 120mm in the back to pull the hot air out. i also have one of those "intercooler" things on it.
how do you orient the xbox? laying flat or standing vertical? miens been laying flat its whole life so maybe that has something to do with it?
