yea as of now this is what i am planning to do to my car once once i get the money (probably in a year or two ) Is everything bolt on though and the head doesn't need any work? Also will the redline still be the same (7k) with the stock wrx heads or will you be able to rev higher.

I believe it is safe to say that the bottom/middle end can put up with a 7K redline. If you are serious about raising the redline you'll need to upgrade the head for more flow, and durability. Valve springs, retainers, Cams, and valves (maybe not the valves) will need upgrading for higher redline, and you'll definately need to use a ECUtek or something to that nature.

This swap looks most promising as the WRX STI ECU can not be modded with ECUtek at this time. I believe the ideal/dream motor would be JDM RA or Spec C heads with a USDM short block. High redline with a bad *** center/middle.

If you guys have anymore questions you should ask Chris on the specifics and for a ride as well.
you won't be disapointed.

seriously, the thought of all that extra torque down low and the possibility of enough displacement to justify a GT30R makes me all warm and fuzzy inside... then again, with all that power you've got a tranny soup and you've got to drop another $5K on a 6MT, but hey, money grows on trees right? well, credit cards definitely do, i know that much.

Hey Tim, you can make pretty good use of a GT30R on a stock EJ20 with no internals or otherwise mate. I have attached a graph from our test car with just that. This sheet shows 3 baselines in 3rd gear (we use a 6sp and the actual numbers from 4th gear were 322whp and 283wtq I just can't find the print out)

The above was done using 91 octane and with the boost pegged at just below 18psi.

Wow. Nice numbers! How are the internals holding up? That's amazing power from <18psi on Cali gas! Wow!

who makes gt30's? Is that a kit you can buy or a custom fabbed one?

Garrett makes the GT series turbo's, the setup we use is a GT30R cartridge built into a T3/T4 housing to our specs.

The internals seem to be holding up thus far with this kit being on the car for 7,000+ miles to date but at these levels and with us having pushed the car out about another 50whp on good gas your really playing Russian roulette with the motor.
