Niners need to look into 1 or 2 more CB's and maybe one more nose tackle and DE for defense. On the other side, they need another receiver and QB, although I think Smith is starting to open up and find his groove. I think he can do good. He's proved a lot this year.

On the other hand, they did great with a brand new head coach and a team that wasn't supposed to make playoffs. They definitely did a lot better than most anticipated. I'm looking forward to next season.

I'll agree, Smith looked good this season and maybe things will open up for him with some stability.. but the consistency, accuracy, fitting the ball and throwing the receivers open... not there. The top QBs, albeit less than a handful can throw their receivers open.

49ers either need a QB who can throw receivers open, even in tight coverage like a Brees/Manning/Rodgers/Brady, or they need receivers that work themselves open or can make a play on the ball like Cruz, Grodkowski. You can only rely on scheme so much, the other part of it is just people making plays, the skill of the players, the execution.

And I'm pretty sure Colts are going to get Luck, there just isn't any other option. They can't bank on a gamble with Manning, and they'll loose too much $$ for it.

Smith said postgame that he couldn't grip the ball well due to the wet weather. Should've taken a page out of Eli's book and fit a ShamWow into his pocket warmer.

if we could have executed on a bunch of successful short throw plays like the giants did I think we could have done a lot better.

I think at the half the giants had like 25 plays for 165 yards and we had 11 for 115 or something. those big vernon davis passes don't work all the time :/

Everyone seems to forget that Eli only scored in the 1st quarter. The rest were gifts due to Kyle Williams so lets not get all crazy about the hate for Smith. If Crabtree, Swain or Williams could get seperation and run crisp routes like Cruz, we would be going to Indy.

Had Smith forced a few more throws and gotten intercepted twice (like Eli almost did, fu collisions), you guys would be putting him on a stake and burning him. Oh and Elis 3rd down conversions in the second half were something like 0-14 so maybe it was the defense not adjusting in the first half.

Not only that but we were riddled with injuries and you cant go deep into the post season with that many injured active players. (hello steelers)

we needed to go back to gore/hunter which we abandoned after getting the first two vd tds. its a shame because thats what got us there in the first place and giants couldnt stop the short 5-6 yard runs over and over.

The Niners as a team did not look like they were ready to be there. The defense showed up in a big way and played great most of the game. They made 2 huge stops that the douche bag returner made waste of. It's tough to be up as a unit and know that every time you get a stop your offense is going to go 3 and out or your douche bag kick returner is gonna cough it up. That dude made 3 HUGE errors in the game. He clearly was not ready for the pressure. They should have put his *** on the bench and put a veteran back there to just catch it and sit on it. I remember the raiders doing that with Tim Brown when he was like 50 years old. LOL.

It's smart football. A dude muffs a punt... O.k., **** happens. A dude makes a HUGE mental error and lets one go off his knee... he's done. He shouldn't have been on the field for that last one period.

As for Alex Smith... it's tough to complete a pass when you have 2 guys on your team trying to get open and the entire defense knows who they are. The receivers were complete and utter ****.

The problem for the niners is that NY exposed them. Going in to next year if they can not find a way to get a big time receiver on their team... they're 8-8.

They need someone like victor cruz that just knows how to get open. That dude CARVED them up.

A full offseason will help a ton but I agree with needing more wrs. Maybe when Morgan and Ginn are healed up, something will happen with them too. Its all about chemisty and knowing how much to lead your guys. I know Ginn can get open but Alex always overthrows him.

Oh and next year we face Pats, Saints and Pack on the road not to mention Rams and Seahawks will also be very competitive. Gonna be a tough tough year.

I honestly believe this was the niners shot at the super bowl. Next year they're lucky to make the playoffs unless they make some huge improvements at WR.

Morgan is a 3 guy at best and Ginn is a slot receiver. You expect any more from him and you're in trouble. They really need Crabtree to get 100% healthy and play every down like he shows from time to time he can. Either that or they need to spend some money and go after someone like Roddy White. Haaaa.

That dude has bad chemistry written all over him. The niners are so damn good because they play as a unit. They have faith in their coaches and each other. Shoot... they even supported the dude that cost them the game... single handedly.

Throw a selfish bastard in the mix and it's all over. Dude has skills but he needs to be on a different type of team. He'll just end up talking **** about the coaches and A.Smith if he doesn't get 10 targets a game.

Maybe Wes Welker or Mike Wallace.

With the way Brown emerged for the steelers this year Wallace even though he's restricted might be within reach.

My top 5...

Wallace
Welker
Colston
Steve Johnson
Reggie Wayne

No way Welker is walking so I'd scratch him and throw Robinson from Dallas in the mix.

THe best fits... Robinson. The dude is still a relatively unknown commodity.

The most likely... Colston. Go after him hard. The dude is a beast and NO has a TON of receivers. He had a down year because of injury and he may not be happy with the lack of looks.

Jackson is not a Cruz. He's predicable and is turning into a Randy Moss. He doesn't want to go over the middle and won't do anything to stop a defender from stealing a reception from him. He's a prima donna cause he knows how fragile he is. I've watched him progressively get softer and softer and only go hard when he knows he's gonna get the ball.
