Question woo woo!

i know this is old news, but can someone explain this article to me....or at least the part i'm wondering about
But Oakland traffic cops say it wasn't hard to discover that the whistle tips were never legal in the first place. By law, you can't alter a car beyond the auto manufacturer's original design. So police are tracking down violators.

by law, we can't modify anything on the car....is that what' the report is saying? or am i reading it wrong???.

lol, my parents have a store in oakland, right on the same street as lincoln elementary school....and if any of u know oakland chinatown that's where everyone just races down the street in the civics and integras....i'm not hating, it's just a fact. they dont really get u for mods, instead just for speeding and like fitting 5 people in the backseats lol

That article doesn't cite the CA Vehicle Code. I continue to do what I will to my car in the way of mods, as long as I think it will pass scrutiny or come in under the radar of law enforcement. Ignore that dumb article. The reporter who wrote that piece didn't do research - they just reported what the police told them. Lemmings...

The whistles go WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Actually, it doesn't really matter does it? Those things were so last year
No really, what I mean to say is that the article didn't cite Cali Vehicle Code so I think we can still "massage" the law here

yeah, that is a load of crap, and I cant belive some places still are unclear of even what the OLD law permitted (yes, there is a new law now too) the old law was the 95db one, basically any modifaction after the cat was fine as long as there was some sort of muffler and it was under 95db, the big problem with the ols law is there havent been state licensed Db stations in years, they used to be right with the brake and lamp check stations but they just never were used so went away, unlike brake and lamp which are necisary to get a salvaged car back on the road. So basically what was supposed to be 95db was left to the cops descretion, but the cops were never given 1 minute of training as to what 95 db sounded like! Well there was a SEMA backed ammedment that passed last year that required some sort of clarifaction to the old 95db requirement. Look it up on google for a better explanation or on SEMAs site, but basically the burden of proof is supposed to be on the state and if you get a ticket for an aftermarket exhaust you can call SEMA for help
