Why you need to check your spare

A couple months back I did my regular maint and filled my spare tire to spec. I was glad I did that today.

I take off from work and get the feeling that something isn’t right with the rear tires. Pull over and find the rear drivers side not quite flat but getting there. Crap, so I change it out for the spare and am on my way in less then 10min. Sucked driving on the doughnut, but I only had ~3 miles to go on city streets so it wasn’t to bad. When I checked out the tire I found a nice large screw.

I know that according to subaru your supposed to change all four. I only have 5000 miles on the original RE92's. I was hopping to get a little more wear out of them but it looks like i'll get to upgrade early.

What all season tires do you guys recommend?
Any good recommended stores/shops in the southbay?

They'll be going on the stock 17" 06 wheels. 215/45/17 I need to try and locate something this weekend so ordering online isn’t a good option.

Let me just warn anyone who plans to use the gummy patches as a "temporary" fix before they get their tire fixed correctly a tire store.

MOST, not all the time, but most of the time the tire store will not fix any tire with a gummy patch. They don't completely seal from air, water and other crap getting into the tire which can lead to rust/deterioration/deformation of the steel belts which can lead to tire failure. If you do go to a shop that does these repairs, I'd highly recommend going to a new shop to get your flat repairs done.

As for a all season recommendation, you definately can't go wrong with Pirelli PZero Nero M+S. They're kind of on the expensive side depending on what size you want, but I personally love them and right now, wouldn't go with another tire for a daily driver. I've never heard anything negative about them at all.

They tramline a lot on uneven road surfaces/freeways. That was my only complaint with those tires.

the reason you're supposed to replace all the tires is so that the diffs don't have to work harder. However, if your tires have very little wear you can get a new one and have it shaved down by pretty much any good tire shop.

I had the falkens ziex 512, they are affordable and last for a while. I just moved down to the NW so now im running some toyo proxes 4 they have a bit better grip on dry pavement than the falkens but still affordable they were like 60$ more for the toyos both are also amazing on wet days and light snow areas too.
