Those girls were driving waaaay too fast. I mean, more than twice the speed limit. That camry was cut in half!

They were Indian too. I'm sure my parents will eventually find someone they know who knows the families. There supposed to be a memorial/vigil thing at Chabot College, I dunno when though. I'm think about actually going, I don't know them personally, but I one of their names sounds familar. I don't think they were racing, they don't seem the type. Right the now the police figures they were trying to catch up to some other car, and failed to take that right turn slow enough.

Last month a pregnant woman died in almost the exact same way, in the same spot. Her bf/husband was racing someone, and hit a tree. He's probably going to face criminal charges.

hey, at least they're safe, numbers are pretty good on injury, especially when you compare them with collision

I wonder how the incidents of injury due to street racing varry between sports cars (wrx) and other passangers vehicles (camary)

depending on the car, some newer cars have cross beams inside the door panels for side impact. They didn't describe the year of the car. Most likely it was an older camry. Newer camrys should have better side impact resistance... can't tell whether it would've helped those passengers and driver in that case...

It also depends on the type of construction and the design of the chassis. The WRX, by the way, is a passenger sedan still by classification. A "sports car" is more like a 2 seater (what was described to me) like a 240z, 350z, Porsche GT3, Ferarri F50, etc.

However, the best technology in the world doesn't protect you against being wrapped around a tree due to stupidity...

Just ask Vhalin...

he enjoys street racing. If his transmission wasn't already broken, I'd put him in as a suspect for the "dark lowered car" that KRON news said was the other driver.

It was a 2003... Honesty, no 2003 car should tear in half if the builder were safety oriented.

Most car manufacturers only car about the crash tests, and they build the cars so that they do really well in the 3 or 4 types of crash tests. other wise, the cars filled with foam and crap to be quiet, and the camry comes with tires that make RE92s looks like F1 rain slicks.

Now, people will estimate the car was going, oh, 70 mph or someting, be please, 70mph is enough to make that turn, in a camry. I looked at the tree. It's beyond the turn, so that means their speed was probably like 85/90+ and they completely lost control and after the bend, they hit that tree.

The title...

This person enjoys street racing, thinks because he has never personally witnessed any deadly accidents, innocent people being hurt/maimed/killed, and hasn't ever seen the consequences of illegal street racing, that it must be something the media is making up. He is under the illusion that Bushido's trips into the North Bay back roads are FAR more dangerous than taking on Evo's and Corvettes (among others), and he loves to brag about his victories.

Now that he's broken his transmission, he's selling everything off, going back to stock, and thinking he's going into his local dealership and everything will be fixed under warranty. I doubt VERY HIGHLY that the transmission will be fixed under warranty.

Look around. Everywhere he posts, he shows that he's a spoiled little kid who can't/won't suffer the consequences of his actions. Mommy bought him a Forester XT, gave him a bunch of money to modify it, so he's had everything handed to him on a platinum platter. In his post looking for a stock uppipe...his statement was:

Bad attempt at humor. Guess I should have read the article before posting. I retract my previous statement. Street racing is bad. It’s very sad to loose 3 young students from the Bay Area.
