Why photoshop or block out license plates?

So why do people photoshop or block out their license plates?

I just don't understand why it matters. Are people afraid of something?

lol

I think the theory is that if you're showing off your car online you're putting it out there for more people to view and they can get your address from your plate number and come and jack your car.

You'd be amazed what ppl can find out from someone just posting up a pic with an uncovered license plate or posting up a mod list and etc, including some rare parts like wheels.

With enough informational resources, someone who you have never even met before, can pay a visit and magically make your stuff disappear.

I usually watch what I share with the whole wide world, not iclub, but the whole wide world.

Yeah, but the ironic part is that you're driving around every day with nice wheels and a flashy part, with an uncovered plate

^^^ I think he is getting more at the fact that you would have to drive past the thief, he would have to spot the nice car/parts, stalk you home, then come steal you stuff. Instead of just looking online for less than 10 minutes.

Lol true, but unless the thief catches you on a regular routine; a visual sighting is still just a glance. Information put up on the net, most of the time is set in stone and archived. When I try to picture what a part looks like on a specific car for example, I look at ppls old postings.

But I guess we'll just have to drive faster so ppl can't make out the parts!! Remember, just don't stop!

I dont want to post up a pic just to have that be the reason someone got their car stolen. Just like in the spotted thread it bothers me we give almost gps locations of peoples cars, sometimes with pictures of where that car parks all day long.

Or the fact that police shop online themselfs. Hey look at that car. Ohh thats not legal. Or look at that plate. ok kids, tag n bag.

The internet can be used against you.

You might think it doesnt happen. But some iclub member has done that to me few weeks back. And when you have a car at the limits. That really is f'd up. To bad for them it was only a phone call to find out the full details.
I forget how childish people can be around here. But my problem has been solved now anyways.

When I photoshop plates out, I usually leave the custom plates in.

I remember posting a picture of my car without blocking my plates on here and someone told me where and when I got my car smogged. Kinda creepy.
