850CSi is only 6spd - this is the one with the M badges after they scrapped the M8 program. Other than that, the 6spd was only offered (in the US anyway) with the 5.0L 850i. The 850Ci and 840Ci were auto only...

I hate automatics...

Even cheaper than that now! I have heard a lot of bad things about the previous gen 540i 6spd. I have two friends that bought them new (both '02 models) and both people said the same things - long shift throws, vague clutch etc. AFAIK the flywheel is 2pieces, spring loaded to provide a more luxurious clutch engagement. As I understand this is very costly to alleviate. With M5 prices dropping slowly that would be the only way to go. Those are sweet cars. Dig the suede headliner..

I went to the Birmingham motor show in 1998 in the UK and that is when they released the new M5 over there. They had one you could ride around in on a test track, and then an engine on a stand, running, with the plenum cover off so you could see the 'serpents' in there. Every once in a while it would go WOT and the hair on the back of my everything would stand up. I bet that engine sold more M5s for them that day than the car itself! I was impressed.
