San Frrnsico here (the "correct" local Herb Caen pronunciation)
I also call it The City. I also refer to Daly City as DC, and Vallejo as "Valley Joe". I call San Jose "Sannozay", and I refer to Cupertino as "The Coop". Oakland is "Oaktown" in my book. Any other funky nicknames for cities in da Yay?!

That reminds me... in Japanese class we were talking about objects next to our house. Most folks said stuff like "other houses", "my garden", or whatever. But one girl just said "takusan ki ga arimasu, zenbu ga ki desu" which means "there are a lot of trees, it's all trees". The teacher looked at her kind of funny and asked her where she lived. Her reply? "San Leandro ni sundeimasu."
