this would be a terrible investment, it's so murky the government can potentially come in at any time to seize the car

What if you bought all the individual parts to put a skyline together?

IDK if they passed CARB stuff.

Could of had the car in Japan for the +\-6 years or whatever while he lived there and had it legally imported/titled

Just a guess though

It may be worth the $36K just for the unicorn factor, but not with the ever looming potential of having it taken away by the govt for being a sketchy grey market ride.

yes, MotoRex was selling 32's and 34's CA registered. They never did any crash tests on either of those chassis and thats the start of when things started to get shady. As time went, every year to meet DOT spec was getting more strict. The amount of work needed and turn around time was becoming an issue. Cars were paid but no car delivered to customer, and that money was being spent (let's not get into that) by the owner. That brought them too much attention when people started filing police reports and claims. A buddy bought a 91 R32 GTR Vspec-II for 47k from them CA reg'd and plated.

now that could have worked but when news of MotoRex getting shut down, their Garage was broken into shortly after and Skylines were stolen. There was a dedicated police team to track and recover these stolen skylines. That and combined with the shadyness that went down, Police are well informed of the Skyline. MotoRex ruined the possibility of owning a legit Skyline, in California atleast.

+1

Soon as it gets flagged in the system at DMV I am sure DHS will be all over it.
If it was me I would retitle it out of California and use a PO Box.
I know DSport has a few. And you can bring in cars from anyplace. But they are for comp or show use and have a dated visa. They have to leave by a certain time or be crushed by DHS.

the R33s were legal since that's what Motorex crash tested to appease the DOT

they tried to sneak the R32s and R34s under the crash data from the R33s and what caused the issues.

there are some legal R33s in California.

What I heard from Modified Mag and others was that the DOT yanked all certs because of all the B.S. Making them all illegal and I know of a few people that have had their taken away from them.

But really at the end of the day your really only paying for the name and the hassle of owning a very high profile car. There are much better cars out there now days.
