Who was the owner of this STi?
2005 subaru wrx sti parting out 84k miles
Looks like the last owner purchased the car in 08 with 47k miles. Owned it until February 2014 when he "totaled" it with 84k. Anyone know the owner? Carfax says he did the majority of the maintenance in the SJ are which leads me to think he lived in SJ.

I've talked to this guy before he claims he's never started it, he purchased the car wrecked already. He wants $8500 and won't start the car, he wants you to go over and take the risk of starting it.
That's not that bad. If no, then not cool at all. Without starting it just no way to know how it runs, or if at all.

I looked at it, it took a good hit in the front. Timing belt is snapped.Motor is dirty, looks like it has been sitting for a while. The guy bought it at a auction and does not know a lot about subys. The interior is clean as is the rest if the car from the front end back. I relieved him if the hood scoop and splitter and was on my merry way.

I think he said he paid 6k for it. He will ask top dollar but I bet he will lower his prices as he doesn't have a lot of space. Has the STI in the garage, a wrecked 2.7 t all road in the driveway and this is a apartment to boot.

Okay just got the carfax. Looks like the first owner took really good care if it up until 47k miles. Sold it to the 2nd owner, who just resold it. 3rd owner purchased it in 08 and had the car running until February I this year when he totaled it. Was also in another (out of state) accident but was not declared salvaged.

Had the belt snap while stopped at a light on the Integra and it died immediately and did no valve damage. That was a best case scenario though, so I'd expect the worst on the STI.
Factor in the cost of rebuilding the head and replacing the valves at a worst case scenario.
And cross your fingers when you pull it apart. You either win or break even.
Yikes. Assume that the engine has bent valves and that the tranny was in gear at the time of collision. Anything that is proved to not exist is a bonus.
I would - if anything - pull the plugs and try to gently hand-crank the engine through a couple revolutions, then put the plugs back and do the same, before doing anything like putting a timing belt on and trying to start it.
But, based on years of buying used parts and being really disappointed, I personally would evaluate the reasoning for being interested in this car and most likely not touch it. If it's just for the engine, and since it probably needs to be rebuilt anyway, I would find someone to build an engine.
