Alex Ovechkin got the Rocket Richard and Art Ross Trophies, Lester B. Pearson Award, and the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league's MVP as the ONLY player in NHL history to win all four awards.

At least he makes the investment of $124mil over 10 years worth while for the Capitals.



His recent playoff goal Game 5 vs the Rangers (BTW, Capitals came back from a 3-1 Series deficit to win 4-3 and win the series over the Rangers... too bad the Sharks suck and can't do that, 21st team to do so in the NHL out of near 500 tries)

Ovechkin is probably the most exciting player in the NHL to watch.

NHL players are still the least paid of the four major sports (football, baseball, basketball and hockey). Most of them don't make near what O is making.

 

12.4 million average a year is not that much for the best player in the game and who knows how much of that is guaranteed. the #1 pick in the NFL draft got a six year 72 million contract with 41 guaranteed and he has never thrown an NFL pass. At least Ovechkin is a proven commodity until he kills himself
