Who is buying all these playstation 2s?
My PS2 died this weekend. It was one of the first models and has had problems in the past with the CD drive. Over the last 2 years I've worked on the drive and fixed read issues, but this time its dead and never coming back.
So I went to the store to buy a replacement, and for some reason NOBODY has a new PS2. The mall's stores had none, walmart and target had none, bestbuy didn't have it, and gamespot was sold out. So I went to Amazon.com and buy.com and both of them were sold out.
What the hell is going on here? This machine is four years old now. They have been tiny since September. Why can't I get a playstation?

I used to work retail a month ago, not anymore. The fact is, most major branches only receive about 10 per store per week. So if there are 100 stores in your area and they all get 10, that's 1000 to go out to each home. Your area may have 5000 homes, in which case, not every home will get one, 4 of the 5 will not get one if they were interested in one. Don't forget, it's right after the Holiday season and kids have unfulfilled lists.

May be because of the release of GT4?!
I heard that the GT4 disk is hard to read for the older models ps2s, so many people need to buy a newer model one in order to play.

I searched about GT4 in some hk online forums, and I found out that a lot of people are having difficult time reading the disk with older ps2 systems beause of the new design of the GT4 disk (double layered or something...I am not sure what it is called)
I was worried about my model 15000 (4 to 5) years old when I ordered GT4....I thought I need to buy another one....Yet, I am now playing GT4 with my old PS2 with no problem at all.
so.... don't be too worry
