Lightbulb Where's the snow?

I finally found out that I'll have a complete 3 day weekend and the fiance and I are looking to find some snow. We're not skiers or snowboarders and don't really want to go to Tahoe. We just want a nice room, a fire place and some snow outside to play in.

What would be some of our options at this late time to consider? Maybe within 4-5 hours of SF. Is it snowing on anybody's front lawn right now?

I can't find anything decent at this late time. I was hoping to find something like a b&b in a fairly remote area. I'm open to any Tahoe suggestions as well.

I used to live in NY. Snow is fun to play in but sucks to live and work in.

There are places along the way when you head towards reno...a little bit past sacramento. My friend lives in Natomas and he said it is about 45 mins away from Boreal ski resort. They might have hotels there you can stay in.

4-5 hours?

you might as well go to tahoe.

lotta cool bed & breakfasts and nice hotels ... casinos too if you're into that.

if you don't wanna ski or snowboard - i'd suggest sledding... as ghey as it sounds, it's pretty fun. I took my then g/f (now wife) there and we were giggling fools lol

Granlibakken is a sledding hill in tahoe city - check it out...

Well we're staying in Truckee or Soda Springs. The owner says no snow. Just rain. Have to travel 15 minutes or so for the snow.
I think there's another snow play area around there too. Kingvale?

Soda springs is at a slightly higher altitude than kingvale... If theres no snow at Soda springs, there wont be any at kingvale. But i'm sure there must be some there of some kind. Truckee might not have that much snow, did they specify where the lack of snow was at?

Tahoe has no snow. The last pineapple express was very warm and just rained and melted a lot of the snow. Next week is schedule to be pretty stormy and colder, so should get a lot of snow.

hey

homer is right, it rained up here, and prettu much there was no snow level. i was up top squaw firday, and it rained above 9k ft the entire storm system.

although the coming storms are welcome, it looks like we *might* get up to a foot. we could use about 5 ft at the moment. it is pretty sorry outlook for the local vendors, and the local economy.

some of the resorts (boreal, squaw that i have seen) have made enough snow to have tubing and somne other sledding, but other than the actual resorts, there is pretty much no snow. certainly not enough to play in. everyone needs to no a rain and cold dance....

as for working and living in the snow, i do work and live in the snow, and absolutely love it. it beats the traffic and rain, and the scenery is pretty nice too . i can't wait for more snow to fall....

Check out Shasta, if you want something off the beaten path to Tahoe. There is snow in the forecast this week!
