where to get an sti key cut in the east bay?

Hey, got an sti key and want to get it cut, but subaru of oakland said they won't do it since they messed one up a couple days ago. Anyone know any places or good locksmiths hopefully in oakland who can cut it? Fremont and Hawyard are alright too. Thanks.

I cut mine at home...hehe... No really, Im a Locksmith and have been for the past decade and I can tell you........do not get your expensive STI blank cut at ace hardware, home depot, longs drug etc or anywhere they use a automatic key machine. The problem is that most non locksmith places that cut keys do not regularly maintain their machines, there for you get inaccurate duplicates most of the time, especially when you use a duplicate to cut a duplicate ie a photo copy of a photo copy.

What I suggest is that you find your key code (the # on the metal rectangle thing that came with your OE keys) and bring it to your local locksmith, I could point you to a few if you want, and ask them to 'Code cut' your key blank. That way you will have an original key cut to factory specifications. It will cost a bit more to do that, but a least you won't get an nice STI key that you won't have to jiggle to make work. I hope this helps..good luck.

I went to the new home depot in Oakland off High St. I am guessing since it is faily new, the key machine is also new. Cut perfectly in about 10 seconds. No charge.

Or...you could take a nice little drive over the bridge, and come here. I'd be happy to cut it on our machine. We keep our machine serviced on a regular basis, and only cut Subaru and Mazda keys with it.
