Personally, I'm a huge fan of Salomon boots. Yes, as in the ski company. They make some amazingly comfortable as well as stiff boots. Try them out, you might find you like them.

I hate salomon boots myself.
I like burton boots. I've owned 3 pairs I think. Something like that. I'm running the ion right now and I like it. but I'm due for a new pair soon.
I have a size 11 pair of forum walsh boots....above the team boot. It's a couple seasons old but never been used. I came up on the burton boots and liked them better.
I'll hook it up if you are interested...anyone.
I demo'd a pair of the vans boots last year and LOVED THEM. I was surprised as hell because it has that boa system on it. I haven't liked it at all. but they updated it and it was very easy to use and very strong. I talked to the rep for a while and spend about 4 hours in the boots. I might get a pair. The contra boot is tight. I road this years boot. It was an early preview kind of deal. The high standard is very comfortable and it's a standard lace up boot. I road the encore boot. It's their base boot I believe but it was down right comfortable. I was riding terrible in the morning and actually turned in early for an extended lunch. Tossed those boots on and KILLED it the rest of the day.

+1 for tri-city.. they have pretty much regular pricing... if you know what you want already and dont mind having to order... go to "The Station" its a smaller skate/inline/snow store off mowry blvd. in fremont, it's a small store so they don't really stock.. but the owner is a very friendly helpful man that understands we don't all have money, and he'll get you better than decent pricing on most equipment.... i usually try stuff at tri-city and order it at the station.. hehe..

Solomon boots are easily the best boots I've ever put my feet into and I've had Burton's, 32's, and Solomon's over the past 14 years of riding. Great longevity, great lacing systems, and fairly stiff. My last pair lasted six seasons, with three of those seasons being 20+ days a piece. The best thing you can do is try on a ton of different boots and see what's the most comfortable for you and your feet. Mine are size 13 and wide as hell
which makes finding comfortable boots all the more frustrating.
I definitely agree with boots being the most important thing for a newbie snowboarder. Get good boots and everything else will fall into place.

+1 for salomon.. most comfortable..
best thing for you on boots is same as buying a moto helmet.. get a pair on.. walk around teh store for a good 15 minutes...(you can look at boards)..
they should feel snug.. your heals should not come up.. and they should feel stiff... loose boots will f*ck you up.
bindings.. look for quality latches.. plastic ones are nono.. all companies make good bindings..
boards... one 2 types... directional and none directional.. forget all the stuipd terms like freeride, freestyle,, all mountain..
you can use any board for anywhere.. get the cheap one that meets your design needs..
when you can start doing 360's and flipps off the 30' ramps then get the 500$ boards..
