I would say that you really want a Motorcycle helmet if you are just doing Auto-X and the occasional track day. Visibility is much better in a Motorcycle helment as opposed to a true race car helmet.
Go over to Road Rider in San Jose and try a few on see what fits well. I encourage you to buy at the shop and support a local vendor

I've been buying equipment from Ken for years. I highly recommend IO Port.

Also any motorcycle shop. They need to see a D.O.T. tag and the Snell Rating, with the year attached.

Ah.... I have used mine Arai for well wed night drags, Auto cross and a few track days.
So I'm not sure what you mean. They all work the same all have the same standards, Motorcycle helments tend to be stronger and lighter.

This is what I was going to suggest also; I use any one of my motorcycle helmets. Just go to a local motorcycle shop (Road Rider, Zoom Cycle Accessories, Cycle Gear, etc) and keep trying on helmets until you find one that fits right. Make sure you talk with the staff to help you find the right one, too.
Watch out for clearance helments, Unless your brain is on clearance too.
They could have been damaged, Also check the Snell and D.O.T. rating to make sure you are not buying old stock that CANT be used as they check for those dates at the track.
