Where to buy GOOD tools?

I know everyone is going to say Sears, which was my first guess too.

I'm interested in getting an air compressor, and air tool kit, and a torque wrench.

I looked on their site and all I am finding are bad reviews on their craftsman torque wrenches, along with their Air Tools and compressors.

Does anyone know where I can find a good, dependable torque wrench and an air tool kit for a good price? I am not very discouraged from going to Sears

is this for casual work or are you starting your own shop?

i picked up a $15 TW a loooong time ago from a auto club warehouse. compared it to a snap-on a few years ago and it was close, if not dead on for tightening lug nuts.

compressor was a $299 special from k-mart about 6-7 years ago. impact wrench came from harbor freight.

removes all the stubborn bolts/nuts. only time i needed help was from a friend's I/R gun that went up to 400 pounds...

i've been using harbor freight tools now for 2 years and nothing has broke on me.

Sure there are some specialty items they don't carry(they do have crow foot wrenches though!) but everything has been dependable.

I have the following from harbor freight:
* electric 1/2" drive impact gun. puts out 240ft-lb.
* Manual torque wrench. 30-150ft-lbs.(Yes, i've used it to 150ft-lbs. at least a dozen times)
* open end/closed end drop forged black wrenches.
* Deep well Impact sockets (19mm gets used every time I changes springs for someone, or rotate my tires)
* 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 drive wobble socket extensions
* 18" and 24" 1/2 drive breaker bars

I know I have more, but that's what comes to mind since those are the tools I use the most.

The only thing I really want an air compressor for is an air ratchet. Very helpful for some hard to reach areas.

For the casual wrencher, most Craftsman stuff will do you fine. I don't care for their ratchets. They feel sloppy. For quality air tools, that will last forever, as long as they are maintained, Ingersol Rand. As for a compressor get something large enough to supply air to your tools. 25gal min. 30-50gal perfered.

The oiless compressors Sears sells are VERY loud, you might want to look into a oiled compressow which will be significantly quieter.

As for torque wrenches, for most suspension/brake work the $19 1/2" drive ones from HarborFreight work fine.

Harbor freight is not the best quality, but it works surprisingly well. Plus their stuff is cheap enough that if it breaks, you're not out much cash and can go buy a replacement.
