Power has been increased from the 996's 420 horsepower to 480, with peak torque jumping from 415 to 460 lb-ft, which is available starting at 1950 rpm and continuing through 5000 rpm.

This increase in power can be attributed to the newly designed turbocharger that feature Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG). The VTG technology adjusts the angle of each turbine blade within the charger so it remains at top efficiency no matter what the speed, which basically combines the attributes of a large and small turbocharger into one. This was not possible previously because of the high levels of heat generated by exhaust gasses; however, Porsche has developed a special material resistant temperatures reaching 1000°C (1830°F).
That is crazy technology right there. Anyone know exactly how it does that?

Give me a C6 Z06 over that any day. Can beat it around the track and will leave me with an extra $60k+ in my pocket.

the turbo sounds like the same thing as the variable pitch screws(propellers) we use on some Navy ships. I wonder how it holds up to the hot and cold cycles that the engine will go through in it's lifetime.

The car costs $122,900 and they make you pay the destination charge! If I'm paying that much they will pay that charge.
