Howdy...
I am currently getting a back piece done at my friend's place, Artwork Rebels in SF. Jason is the best (if not one of) when it comes to custom tattooes. You can go to his website, but it's not very up to date www.artworkrebels.com. He is great with ideas, and will work with you and whatever you have. His shop is located at 1755 Market St. in SF. This is not a flash type tattoo shop, so do not expect to see alot of pieces on the wall to choose from. His portfolio is extensive, and has much better pictures then on his website.
As for regretting a tattoo, it only happens if you get something trendy or off the wall. I've talked to many people to see what they think, and it all comes back to the person looking at you in the mirror. Take serious consideration to what you want to get, and go from there. I'd post a picture of my piece, but it's no where near done, so there is no point... hahahaa

Freddy and Scott both are amazing...as for shops in the bay I think it's one of the best from top to bottom artist wise.
I'd say 222 if it hadn't shut down.

Yep, if you're in Davis, take the ride up to Wild Bill's in Roseville. It's probably a little more expensive than some of the other places, but they do excellent work. Bill has done most of the Sacramento Kings and you can usually find him sitting floorside at Arco.

check this out...
tatoos are a big decision...i currently have 7...
the most important thing to think about is the art itself. do you want a flash art tatoo ( one that you pick from a book, that is prolly on every other person you see on the street) or an original piece.
all of my tatoos were done by a guy named fedrick from tahiti. he also did "the rocks" tatoo.
i have been studying and drawing polynesian tatoos for 6 years now and have tons of people with my work. so if your interested in real tribal art i can draw one up for you and then direct you to a good shop. i will post pictures of my tatoos in a min.
aight! peaCe mama.

jijve. Those look great.
I'll snap a shot of my arm when it's done. It's only two sessions in. Looking at one really long one or two more. Much more color though..haaaaaa. And I'm not blessed to be so thin as you..lol.

and 222... Yep, that place was awesome.
Eddie D. is doing some work on my back... it's really cool too because seven years ago I had him do some work on the upper left of my back but by the time I'd saved up enough money to go back and have him balance me out he'd sold his shop and "retired"... I finally found him and even though he doesn't have a shop he agreed to do the other side. I wouldn't have tattooed the other side unless it was his hand, it took me long enough
