what's the deal with these ipods?
should have gotten apple care.. that way you wait for the new generation to come out, bring it back to like bestbuy and get a new ipod and buy apple care again.. my buddy does that and gets a new ipod every 2years.

these problems with ipods are widespread. what cracks me up is that people still buy them cause they are trendy. but they are full of reliability problems. the batteries are crap. they wont hold a charge after 1 year, so you have to either replace it by paying apple $100 (i think they have since dropped the price tho) or buy a new ipod. my sister has a mini that keeps crashing and basically losing all the songs on it. and it wont turn on 90% of the time. she has sent it in 3 times already and it has never been fixed. she actually stopped using it.
it costs to be trendy and cool i guess. if you think about it.. apple is damn smart. have they $300 products only last 1 year, and introduce a new product every year forcing the consumer to either 1: pay $100 for a new battery, or 2: buy a new ipod for $300.

I don't understand why people love Apple products. In all honesty, and also imho, Apple products are nice, but they're glorified and over priced. They look pretty, but that's what you're paying for. I have a lot of non-Apple products that do the same thing, sometimes they do it even better for less. But, that's just my 2 cents.

Between my girlfriend and I, we've had the original Ipod, Mini (replaced original), Shuffle, and now Nano (replaced Shuffle). They've all been fantastic. I say craigslist your old one everytime a new one comes out (which is like every 6-12 months), and you should be alrite
They've all worked like champs.

As someone who's always enjoy and supported apple compouters, I really dislike iPods with the exception of nano's. I had the very first 5gb iPod many moons ago, and it was ok, of course many improvements have been made; but there are much better products out there, iPods are severely over priced, many people buy it for the name and the image of having one. When I sold these things at apple store, I had people come in who had no clue even how to get MP3's or barely knew what it was and would buy one; and since I was on comission, it didn't bother me. There are excellent products made by other companies for less with more features(FM, built in Mic, etc). I would explore other options, unless you're planning to get a nano, that is the only ipod I thouht wow and almost considered getting.
Creative, iRiver, Samsung all have great products.

"but there are much better products out there"^^^^
+1
add iaudio to the list as well.
A lot of the other players are UMS, so no need for any drivers (drag and drop music to and from your player). I know you don't have to use spytunes with your ipod, but the majority of apple DAP owners do.
Apple has great marketing. so does BOSE. enough said
