Also, if someone were determined enough to assassinate someone as politically ans socially important as the president, they wouldn't be be deterred by weapons inspections at the entrance to campaign rally. If they are that determinded, disturbed, and anti social they will undoubtedly find a way to at least attempt something of that magnitude.

Im surprised no one commented on the link about the story, the point isnt, who would brong a weapon to a rally, its why would the Secret Service, the one agency whos primary purpose is providing protection, inexplicably stop searching people?
