But remember, it is a "Topper". You need to get something underneath it.
How f'ed up is your paint? If it is pad, you need to use a paint cleaner, then a glaze (Megs #'7 is highly touted) then at the very minimum, a wax. I hear good things about turtle, and about #26. After trying #20, I love it. I am going to do the following:
#7 (My paint is in good shape, so no cleaner)
#20
#26
S100
Final Detail spray.
I will be having my isht all pimped out!

Final Detail, if you can obtain it. It is supposed to be amazing. It is meguire's professional detailer stuff. I will get a gouge on it, just give me time!

Any type of clay bar will also get rid of water spots, as well as other embedded contaminants. If you are just getting started in the detailing world a good way to get started is to wash your car with dawn or any other dish soap. The high alkaline content will strip off any residual wax on your car. But, don't make a habit of using high alkaline soaps on your car because they are pretty harsh.
Then use your clay bar. Some people use car wash soap as a lubricant for clay, but I just use water (as do a lot of detailing shops). After that use a regular car wash soap (Meg's gold class or Zaino Z-7 are good). The key here is to dry the car well or else you'll still get water spots. I use a pakshak waffle weave and they are fantastic (see www.pakshak.com).
Then use a sealant (Zaino or Klasse) or a polish (Meg's seems to be a popular choice but I'm not very familiar with their products).
If you have a lot of swirls/scratches or are a perfectionist you should use a polisher (porter's random orbit polisher seems to be the enthusiasts overwhelming choice here-- see autopia for more on this). Then top it with your wax of choice. I like S-100 because it's easy and gives a great shine, but I've also used Meg's Gold Class (although, unlike s-100 it stains trim).
I know all this seems like a lot of work, but after that maintenance is pretty easy. Dusting and quick detailing will keep things clean along with an occasional car wash will keep your paint looking good. You only need to do the entire dawn-clay process every six months or so.
